Coming from the Triumph world, if the bike isn't dripping/sweating a little oil, that means your bike is out of oil! We wipe it off and go for a ride. It should not however be mixing oil and coolant, or spewing oil ... man, my Street Triple 765 was the worst, minor oil leak both sides.

A @Atucker, losing coolant with coolant caked on the engine exterior, did you get that repaired, what was the issue?
I learned young that "english car in the garage, cardboard on the floor". Didn't knew that it was the same with english bikes 😀
But japanese are smart, my CB only drips on the road. Curious, despite this, not a single drip was left on my garage floor!!

Hello:

Since I found this infamous oil leak that I have an open complain at Honda customer support.
After following their instructions to “simply” replace the water pump, as I already shared, the 2nd pump soon developed the same leaking mode.
Today I consider that open case fruitless and it´s closed for me. Honda Motor Europe doesn´t recognize this problems thus, there is no official solution.
They just recommended me to go to the local dealer for a 2nd pump preplacement, which I don’t believe it will be an absolute guaranty that it will end up solved. The pumps Honda keep in stock, at least here in Europe, seem to have the sabe problem as the ones I had in my bike. I’m truly disappointed with all this and the bike ☹

So, until I decide what to do next, this is the solution I have…

Bad o ring install
No, it´s not the pump assembling o-ring. I confirmed it in both pumps by cleaning and watching it reappear. The oil is coming from the pump body weep hole. It´s the shaft internal seal that fails prematurely.
If it was the assembling o-ring I would have oil running down the engine case. Case is now dry, the oil come through the pump body by gravity then wind and heat does the rest. Oil filter, cables, frame and engine covered in oil. It´s not a big quantity, but it´s messy, it spreads all-around.

Some say it´s the seal quality, shaft surface finishing, warping or a mix of them all. In general, a bad quality pump.
How can diesel HP pumps keep diesel in with hundreds of bar pressure and these pumps don´t hold in crankcase oil with a couple of bars inside?! Bad quality finishing and materials. Needs to be a bit better for this application!

I feal I have to investigate it myself, find a good pump and assemble it myself, as dealers will install any sh...ty pump they put their hand on, and their job is done. I don't blame them, If Honda doesn´t support what else can they do?!

Yea I understand the sentiment about dealer/mechanic just installing any old part. I've been stung before.

If you do find a solution let us know!

Update water pump:
Its now 2 years ago and a lot of miles further that my water pump was replaced under warranty (the famous oil leak of the inner seal). Time for an positive note, the pump is holding up great, not a drop of oil 👍.

I'm thrilled to see a CB water pump so clean. I almost dropped a tear of emotion 😢
Do you want to sell that water pump? I give you 200€ for it ;-)

Honda dealer told me recently that they will replace my pump again with no issues, but they cannot assure me the result will not be the same.
At least it holds collant well!

I understand your frustration! (I suffered too) But I’m not selling my precious water pump 🤣🤣🤣. When it was swapped 2 years ago under warranty I checked it constantly (OCD) because I didn’t trust the new pump to hold up! But now it’s still running strong, so there is hope for those who suffer a pump problem. 👍

Leaking CBR650R reporting in. Took it to the shop and they replaced the o ring and seal. Left a nice mess like before just after riding 40 miles after getting to my destination. Went to the shop a week later and told them it's still leaking and they said they'd call Honda the following business day. No call or anything after a week. Going to call next business day and set up another appointment. Even though I have a warranty I still have to pay for labor and parts :\ . Great.

Wait what? You have warranty but you have to pay labor and parts? That’s not a warranty at all. That’s the definition of no warranty.
-Sir great news, we found the problem, and thankfully you have warranty, you just have to pay labor and parts 😏.
-Phew, thank you so much, I thought I was screwed 😊, see you in a week. Wait hold on! 🤔. I almost forgot to pay for the coffee while I was waiting.
-No worries sir, coffee’s on the house.
-Wow thanks so much, you guys are excellent 👍. 😂😂😂😂

There must be more to the story since it’s a ‘19 in his profile and the US models have a 1 year factory warranty……
