new levers today! it was surprisingly easy to replace them, especially the brake lever

i wanted more adjustability, they can also adjust along the grips for different hand sizes

1050 miles this weekend

Long Island NY to Cleveland OH, ~505 miles on Saturday then back home Sunday. About 10 hours each way including breaks.

About 55 mpg entering NYC, 50mpg after an hour of stop and go traffic, 38mpg after ~400mi of 75-95mph in the mountains across Pennsylvania the long way.

Was a lot more tame coming back, averaged 47mpg overall after a lot of traffic across NJ to NY to CT, taking the ferry back to Long Island because traffic thru NYC was terrible on the way.

Bike did great. I felt sympathetic for it holding it at 6-8000rpm for miles on end. But it never complained.

Had to stop about every 70mi to stretch, the seat really hurt me. Going to look into aftermarket seats/pads. Gas-wise, could’ve gone 120-140mi safely, 160mi would be pushing it.

Givi quick release saddlebag mounts held up good, I made a strap to support most of the weight on the passenger seat since I kind of stuffed the bags. They sell something similar but I didn’t have one in time.

Today i:
- put some new ASV levers on replacing the aftermarket Ali express special ones that came with the bike. They were loose, wobbly and taped up from breakages. The ASV’s are quality, sturdy and feel amazing by comparison

- adjusted my clutch to ensure I was getting the right level of free play.

- tightened up my chain slack. A mixture of the clutch cable play and and the chain tension getting a bit slack I think was causing some real harsh gear shifts which now feel nice and smooth. I still want to adjust the gear selector pedal a little but that’s for another day…

- gave the chain a good clean and lube with tension monkey products. Now when stationary I have a nice banana scent (at least for a bit)

- topped up my brake fluid front and rear. Only a top up at the the min as I’m looking to get a full service on it soon where it’ll be changed along with coolant (I’ve not long done the oil to motul 7100)

Learnings from today:
My bike for some reason has two different sized lock nuts when adjusting the chain slack. One is a 12mm and one is a 14mm… typically I didn’t have a 14mm spanner so had to source one!

Levers are incredibly easy to change

Chain tension is easy to do as long as you have a breaker bar and a good torque wrench for tightening.

On the clutch lever I think I need a very thin washer to fill the gap for some wobble, but it’s a fraction of what it used to be with the old levers

Pair valve removal and blanking plates added. I put in a denali split sound bomb horn because why not. Put the compressor part where the pair valve was and the actual horn unit while bulky was able to go were the oem was with just about enough clearance from the fairings and radiator tube. I did have to modify the horn bracket slightly to make it fit. And by modify I mean bend the shit out of it. But its solid so im happy.

Do you feel and difference after that?
Not a whole lot. Little micro surges in power are gone when just apllying the minimal amounts of throttle at low revs is how i would describe the change. Maybe less noise from the top end of the engine at idle? Depends how sensitive you are to these things. I could have lived with it.

Up to you if you think thays worth it. Im getting a full exhaust system and a tune so i done it.

The next carbon piece was installed, I now wait for the postman to bring me the box with the rear carbon mudguard. That will be the last carbon piece that I want for this bike.

Nice. I've thought in doing the same for mine, since my boots are always getting painted with the matte finish of the bike, and the bike turns dirty black in turn. 😅

However, I noticed as the matte finish is coming off, it's turning into a shiny steel/aluminium. So I might scrub all that piece to remove all the matte finish and see how it looks like, before decide to go for a carbon cover. 🙄

That was the main reason for me to install them. It's aluminium so it will always rub off on your boots, you may use only PPF to protect them but it will eventually be destroyed by moving foot and you will need to replace it. I hope the carbon ones will survive for longer time.

Im not sure what year, version or regional CB come from the factory with blacked out ones but id imagine you could order them from a parts provideder if you search up the part code.
