Excited to get the forks back today!! Has been ages without the bike, and unfortunately will continue to be a little longer...

I refit them and was seating the axle when I noticed the preload nut on the left fork was rising and falling, the right fork nut was not.

My suspension guy explained what has happened:

'It looks like an inner retainer clip has moved that holds the preload adjuster in place it can't go anywhere as the adjuster turns a capstan in the top cap which pushes the spring down that's why the preload is measured in turns not lines'

Won't be picked up from post office until Monday so will get it back Wednesday at best 😣
Glad irs

Thanks for the tips. My tire pressures are good, 36 front and 42psi rear. They are pilot road 4s that have about 500 miles on them.

I wish the shock was serviceable. I plan on having the fork serviced but I hesitate to buy a used shock. A new shock is the same price as ohlins as far as I can tell.

So I am considering the ohlins shock and doing the ohlins spring upgrade/fork service at the same time.

That’s $1000 of work. I am struggling with the decision.

Try lubing your front fork and the rear suspension. Make sure it's sure clean after. It MIGHT help.

Hey gents, just reviving this thread as i have a dumb question, is there a way for me to see what position my rear preload is in? I have messed around with it abit, and have forgotten if i set in 4 or 5. How do i verify which position i am in? o.o

Nice! Looks excellent let us know how it feels, correct me if I'm wrong but looks like your compression reservoir bracket has been fit upside down. See images on these links for reference:

This is the position I have copied with mine.

Finally i got it all set up correctly by my Honda dealer. Thanks for highlighting again.

Feedback on my Ohlins HO 110027 Shock Absorber and FSK 129 Top Cap & Spring KIT (CBR650F 2018)
Stocks suspension - cornering is scary cause it bounces around on uneven roads, bottoms up very easily during downhill. After the upgrade my bike is much stable, less bouncy going through uneven roads, downhill and during acceleration. No regrets, best upgrades to have after I got a good set of tyre (Rosso III).

i have considered a cartridge (FKS 223 OHLIN). it is just too expensive about 4 times the price in my country; compared to the spring kit.

Yes everybody is getting the R. I got the F last year in 2018. When the R came out I was in a dilemma, felt short changed for the F that does not have USD fork, slipper clutch, traction control, ABS, gear indicator and etc (u get the idea..). At one point I wanted to trade in my F for the R. After much thought I finally got over it. Once a wise man said in this forum

miweber929 miweber929 "Yup. Once you get that new bike, you'll be happy for a few weeks until the next years latest and greatest thing comes up and then it will be a POS that you can't wait to upgrade. The the cycle then repeats until you're broke, dead or you decide stuff is ever changing and you learn to become happy with what you have.
I know, man, I've been there. Then I figured out it was making me broke and I wasn't any happier the when I had something I simply liked that worked and did what I wanted it to do in a simple way. "

Thanks man for these words. So I decide to keep my F, love it and upgrade it to be better. No more looking at the R again for me. :)
No offence to the R owners ya. The R is still a better bike than the F. Just sharing my personal thoughts :)

So I decided to upgrade my front suspension. After reading about the Andreani cartridge kit, I decided to get one. Thank u U User2 for sharing and giving his feed back on his Andreani cartridge kit. Couldn't find it in my country so decided to get the Ohlins cartridge kit FKS223 (NIX22) instead. The cartridge is amazing with preload, compression and rebound. No regrets. :)

I recently got a one year old CB650F and don't see any need to do anything to the suspension. ( I could have had a brand new R model for £2,000 more ! )
Having been caught out a couple of years ago buying a bike with diabolical suspension and horrible erratic fuelling that I couldn't get rid of soon enough , I am just pleased to have a Honda where everything does what it is supposed to do. If it isn't broke don't fix it:)

Yeah, the stock stuff isn’t bad unless you’re heavy and ride aggressive. The tires are really the limiting factor and even then they aren’t horrible.

Well , tyres wear and you change them anyway. I usually change to Bridgestones when the time comes. What is the Bridgestone type for the CB650F and has anybody fitted them ?

Hi Guys, just wanna share this video. Dave Moss explains best when it comes to adjusting preload, compression and rebound on bikes with fully adjustable suspensions and fork.
Yes our stock bike comes only with a preload suspension adjustment, if you have upgraded (or planning to) here is something to take note.
To me, there is nothing more important than having a good set of tyre and adjustable suspension/fork. Cheers :)

I just adjusted the preload on my rear shock in preparation of getting my girlfriend as passenger on the back for the very first time. Yes, quite a milestone :)
Anyway, after figuring out how the preload adjuster worked, I found that it requires quite a lot of force to adjust the preload. Is this correct? The adjuster is made of a relatively soft plastic material and the spanner left its marks in there. Is that normal?

I haven't touched the suspension on my cb650f but had reason to adjust preload on twin shock bikes like moto guzzi v7 and triumph Bonneville t100 and actual adjustment was fairly easy i.e, not that hard to turn . Getting a good result was a completely different (impossible ) matter !

Interesting personal observation which is probably like the most obvious thing to most people, but considering I had never changed any suspension settings before, riding my bike solo for a bit after cranking up the suspension to the 5th notch (hard) the rear felt really strange. It does have a massive impact on handling. Well, duh ;)

After much reading and watching tons of Dave Moss videos, this is what I understand.
According to Dave Moss our stock suspension setting is made for "nobody in particular". This really struck me the importance to upgrade my suspension and able to adjust it for my weight, riding purposes and types of road.
I am 68 kg, mostly spirited riding on twisty roads. Correct me if I didn't get this right. Sorry for the ugly chart :)

With rider (Ride Height)_______________________________Front (F1-F3)_____________Rear (R1-R3)

My setting (Sporty/Cornering)__________________________35 mm___________________29 mm
Ohlins Manual Standard_______________________________30mm-40mm___________25mm-35mm

Dave Moss's recommendation
-Street__________________________________________________30mm-40mm__________30mm-40mm
-Sporty/Cornering______________________________________30mm-35mm__________25mm-35mm
-Aggresive on throttle__________________________________30mm-40mm__________25mm-30mm
-Track hard brake/accelerate___________________________25mm-35mm__________25mm-35mm

Compression & Rebound
My setting - Front - Compression______________________8 clicks out
My setting - Front - Rebound___________________________8 clicks out

Ohlins Manual Standard - Front - Compression__________12 clicks out
Ohlins Manual Standard - Front - Rebound______________12 clicks out

My setting - Rear - Compression_______________________________________________8 clicks out

Ohlins Manual Standard - Rear - Compression___________________________________16 clicks out

I guess a more accurate way of putting it is that the suspension is tuned towards some average, so it would be "just about right" for most people. Nobody is exactly that average so in that sense, the suspension isn't an exact match for anyone.
