Hey, I just picked up a used 2014 CB650f, and noticed the rattling should when below 3000rpm or rolling off the throttle, which I now understand is the pair valves.

I can tell it is going to annoy me, now I have noticed it! Especially when I can hear how smooth the engine is above 3000rpm.

Has anyone made a comparison video before and after this mod? It looks pretty manageable even for a novice, but I am wondering if it is worth going through all the trouble?

totally worth it. One of the best performance mods you can do to improve off-idle throttle response. (& annoying rattling sound)

I did my 2018 cb650f yesterday. All I did though was put a vacuum cap in the air box hole for the pair valve. No check engine light and sounds better.

Just ordered my plate from Smart Moto. Also have a throttle tamer on the way. Hoping this combo makes my ride more enjoyable and low speeds.

Me too , I just ordered from Smart Moto , at first I didn't want to do all the work ( I was thinking only to block the pipe with a vacuum cap) , but now i'm all on it.

I am pretty sensitive to noises in general. You can call me mentally ill about it actually. removing PAIR VALVES did not help getting rid of the noise! However throttle is smoother and jerkiness is way lesser than before. It also pops much less but some will remain. My take, its the natural Honda inline 4 noise. Akra pipes will magnitude this noise comparing to other brands... so just be aware. Good luck:)
Ow btw in case u decided to remove them ask someone with kids size hands to help u! We are talking about tight spaces here !

Thank you for the reply. I would 100% only do it to get rid of the noise, so if that does not fix it, then I will just remain stock.

I have stock exhaust so I do not get any popping

I have my block off plate on order but can't I just unplug the PAIR valve and that would disable it from opening and closing?

I think I read in this thread, that by default the solenoid is fully open, unplugging it will do the exact opposite of removing or blocking the system

Hi, I just did this on a 2014 Cbr650f using the smart-moto version and now my bike idles at around 3k. I let it run for 15 minutes and no change. I also added the smart moto resistor which I know isn’t needed for us bikes but nonetheless still high idle.
I only removed the bare minimum to replace it. I got tiny baby hands so it was pretty easy.
Ps thanks for the jis disclaimer, I happen to have jis set for some rc stuff and know first hand what using a regular Phillips does to those screws.

thanks!

Could it be that the plates are not seated correctly? Double check when you get the chance? I also placed a little sealant around the plates when I did it.

You've most likely left the vacuum hose off the map sensor. If I had £5 for every time I've posted this...
Vacuum hose was on, I got new front turn signals and front rear camera,, I’ll check that the pairs are fully seated when I rip her apart for those. Admittedly I just pulled off the old and put on the new without cleaning the area since I was in a hurry. But I tag every piece I remove with a label maker so I make sure everything is back where it belongs

Having fitted those plates and not sealed them on the first attempt I can be pretty sure when I say that a bad seal will not affect the idle speed. It does make a lot of exhaust noise though.

A bad read on the map sensor will affect idle though.

Just my experience.

Hi guys

Okay so i have the block off plates from smart moto laying around and figured its time to do the mod.

I plan on keeping the original exhaust, but i read earlier in this thread that it will destroy my catalytic converter. Thats why i never went ahead with the mod.

If someone would be kind enough to explain in a bit more detail in what way it will be ruined, i mean does it clog up and will it get worse over time ?

Im ok if it only affects emmisions test.

Bonus questions, is there different versions of the smart moto plates ? I read somewhere that someone has the new version of them or something.
Will the block off plates be noticed somehow by the dealer when i take it in for service.

My bike is a CB650R 2019(euro)

Thanks in advance guys, this forum is really helpfull!

You did not read correctly that it will destroy your cat. What will happen is the system will not pump O2 into the exhaust at idle (and barely off idle) conditions, thus not feeding the cat enough to do its job. Since the bike rarely spends much time idling, the point will be basically moot regarding emissions.

The new version of the plates had the recesses already drilled out.

Thanks for the quick repply, much appriciated man!

That makes sense regarding the cat.
My English isnt super, and i cant figure out what "recesses" means. Something with the half way trough drilling in the plates ?

Here are the plates i got. + What BrammerS and Drewster said about org.cat+pair valve block off mod.
