CBR650R MPG am I missing something?

Mystery solved.
All the reviews I read weren’t quoting the official MPG figures and the 48MPG I had been seeing was obviously journos ragging it pretty hard.

Official Honda MPG of the 2022 CBR650R is shown below in km/l as 20.4
Converting to MPG gives 57.2 MPG.
So the 58 ish read measured figure is about right though perhaps closer to the official figure than I would expect as I haven’t been cruising it most of the time. The dash 62 MPG figure is clearly a bit on the hopeful side however!
I assume you are using imperial measures when you say gallon. Lots of folks here are using US gallon measure which of course is quite different, and that may be what the reviews were quoting. If that 48 mpg you refer to was US gallon size, then that equates to 57.6 mpg Imperial, making it identical with the official Honda figure of 20.4 km/l. It really helps to state the size of gallon used when discussing mpg.

That aside, I have gotten up to 68 MPG Imperial measure on my 2018 650F. That would be easy riding in warm temps. Average consumption is less of course; more like 55 to 60 mpg

No the reviews I’ve been looking at are Uk reviews like MotorcycleNews MCN quoting 47 and most of the rest all saying 48 MPG and test imperial not US gallons which are smaller.
So all the reviews I’ve seen at UK and should be imperial gallons!

The Honda figure I finally tracked down in the UK website was in km/l and have converted that to imperial MPG.

I've found that most of the time the specs posted are just regurgitated from a different source. In their test they note much higher, but then don't even bother to update the posted specs which likely came from Honda or an entirely different source.

Probably right but at least I’ve worked it out now!
Went for a ride with my son today and on the way back indicated 61 again so I guess 57 mpg will be the right number.

Doing pretty good this tank 95 miles, and it just went down to 3 bars showing. I am hoping for 150 before it flashes. Mostly back 2 lane roads. Only mod is a Akra exhaust baffle out and tail tidy.

My bike continues to get around 61 indicated MPg which measured comes out to 57 real MPG.

My last tank which didn’t include blasting around after my son on his Ducati gave 62 indicated and after 177.8 miles cost me 13.89 Litres or 3.08 Imp Gallons which works out to 58 MPG

Ouch!
Can’t believe the fairing and Euro 5 make that much difference !
Now then we’re you thrashing it round a track in the Cotswolds ?

I can't believe euro 5 would make that much difference without negatively affecting rideability?
I've got a few bits of motorway travel coming up so will see if that improves the readout

I was fairly incredulous as I saw some reviews from journos who must have been hammering it at around 48MPG but I promise while I’m not wringing it’s neck all the time Im massively enjoying using all the power revving over 10k before changing up and maybe going quite quickly at times👍
But it’s still returning a real and pretty steady 57 ish calculated from miles and actual fuel put in.
With 94 BHP it’s not slow and the rideability is great!
Of course my experience of big bikes is the Suzuki Sv650 I passed my test on another CBR650R 21 test ride, a Triumph Tiger Sport 660 so perhaps not in a position to claim great breadth of experience but eh CBR650R is the best of the three by far though the Triumph had a great gearbox.
Having done about 1300 miles on it now I am certain of the real calculated numbers vs the displayed optimistic ones!
If I see 61 now I know I’m getting 57 so the display is a consistent 4 mpg optimistic.

I have done one trip across the country on dual carriageway and motorways and as it’s difficult to stick to 70 on boring roads I think the consumption was slightly worse but probably only a couple of MPG, i wasn’t measuring at fillip and calculating it then however.

Made it to 165 miles before the light flashed. Filled up 3.5 gallons, so roughly 47+ mpg, not gentle with the throttle whatsoever.

Someone else commented that apparently it does make a significant difference having the fairings on the CBR650R so as we’re both in 2021 CBR bikes you must be very very not gentle with the throttle.
I do spend time around the speed limit ish except when overtaking where there’s traffic but I’m not shy at enjoying the acceleration coming out of villages and on the twisty roads so you must be riding it like you stole it !

Yea, on the highway the last 2 days commuting to work, 100 miles or so of... lets say rapid speeds :angelic:

It gets to those rapid speeds so quickly too doesn’t it!
0-60 in 3.3 seconds at possibly a little more as I am no lightweight always makes me smile 😊

For sure! I am so impressed how well it handles the highway. I was in 6th this morning at 100mph (in Mexico of course) and it was turning around 8000rpms, lots of room to go and she wanted to, I restrained myself :)

Yes seen three figure speeds myself (on a track obviously 🙄) and at 115 she still had lots of go.
I’ve seen the 21 CBR top speed quotes as 145-149 MPH.
More than enough to put a grin on anyones face!
I’m on a promise for some track instruction from a MotoGP test rider later this year so I guess I will find out just how quick she goes probably on the main straight at Donnington Park Circuit👍

Just calculated my fuel consumption. 263km, 12,5 liters. I had probably 50kms worth of fuel left.
That works out to 4,75 l/100km or 49.5 us mpg (59.5 for brits).
The display showed a little smaller consumption, 4.6 l/100km.

Plenty of full throttle acceleration, 30% driving in the city and 70% on twisty roads. 2021 CB650R with 2200km on the clock.

That’s impressive!
I went the other way yesterday.
Did some motorway miles (70 of them) behind my sons Ducati let’s say they were brisk and saw it as low as 52 MPG (UK gallons) which means it was probably about 49 in reality!

On the quick! ride home (another fast100 miles) in two hours on twisty hilly roads it recovered to 54 Indicated around 51 real and just triggered the reserve flash after 177 miles so I think I would easily make 200 miles range on the tank even riding hard.
Was giving it the full beans away from lots of lights and gave a Fiat Abarth that was seriously shifting a good dusting up too!

I have seen 64 MPG indicated toddling back from the garage to home in traffic at 50 so there is a big range depending on how you ride 👍

Hey fellas, new to the party, just picked up my 2018, in my excitement took her from LA to Primm and back took 4 gas fill ups starting with a full tank, ended with a half a tank averaging 95ish mph most of the way I averaged about 30 mpg 😢🫠

I have seen that going quickly on the Highway (Motorway here) has a big impact on MPG and you need to allow in my figures for the use here of Inperial Gallons which have more petrol than the US gallons!
The Uk unit has 1.2 x the US one so you need to multiply your figure by 1.2 (or divide my figures by 0.833) to make it a real comparison so the 57 mpg I have been getting equates to about 47 US MPG

I had a fast ride on the Motorway for around 70 miles following my son (Motorcycle racer) followed by a quick ride home (another 100 miles of twisty hilly roads done in exactly 2 hours) and the MPG UK dropped to around 53 which would be 44 MPG US but it’s basically a well run in new Euro 5 spec bike so I think it does a bit better than the last generation machine as that’s kind of the idea of Euro 5!
The neat trick is Honda have done it without losing any BHP (still 94)!

Anyway enjoy your bike, I know I am!
