I have a question on the blocking plates that I just ordered from Smart Moto.
These are upgraded versions that all i do is take off the oem plates and just install correct? Meaning no need to unscrew the oem metal flaps?

I've been watching intake installs for the CB650R and it gets to the point of the intake. The bottom half of the intake i'm assuming needs to be removed to get to the PAIR system. Is that bottom half a challenge to take out? or does it just kinda pop up?

Attached: I circled the area I'm assuming I am to block off with the kit i'm getting?

Noted: I will be careful of the JIS screws when i see'em.

its not that! open the upper half, and you will see 2 holes on the lower half (left and right) > right should be blocked. the left is a breather and its crucial to stay open! In order to reach the PAIR, you need to unplug all the plugs after unscrewing needed screws. its fully addressed in the service manual

the plates are the new version and you don’t need to remove the reeds
the older version were just flat, and people were either drilling recesses or removing the screw and reeds

the black hose that is running above and across the air box, it the PAIR Valves intake, when removing the solenoid valve you’ll be removing that line as well
So you need to block (with the cap provided in the kit) where that line was connected
As baugustine @baugustine said, the bottom right one

On this point above ⬆

My Smart Moto kit was delivered today and the plates are cored out to allow for the reed screws so there is no need to remove the reeds .

My question is......are there any ill effects of NOT removing the reeds? Will they move about or rattle once blanked off?

I can't work out whether there is a clear cut answer on this so while I have everything open and accessible, I want to make the right call.

So...I decided to do this tonight, I got every thing off, beside the side intakes, I can't get the bottom of the intake box off. Like i'm missing a screw.
I removed the intake funnels so it's not that holding it down. I'm afraid to man handle it and pull it out.

if you have followed the pic on the book that I've sent you you should be fine
the box is connected to the side shrouds via the funnels, these are holding the box in place

the circled are the funnels going to the side intake shrouds

these funnels are holding the bottom in place

the other pic shows where they can be split half way

Took some pictures of the location with the box out.
Those hoses are tough to get to and not to mention to pull up.
Thanks to MRFritz86 advice in moving the side intakes made it easier to reach.

My kit is due to arrive this Thurs, I have plenty of time to take off the covers.
I just hope i remember how everything goes back. =(

Glad you made it
one useful note when you're putting everything back together
those hoses can be split/separate in 2 pieces, one piece (one for each side) is supposed to stay on the box and the other half on the intake shroud

split them right in the middle, install it (the half that goes on the box) back on the bottom side of the airbox before you put it in place
then once you put back the intake shroud make sure to merge the 2 pieces back together

than you should be good

Picture attached, I noticed that there was a plug that is blocked off and connected to nothing.
I circle the location. Anyone know what that is for?
