Hello all

I have only just joined this forum as it seems very handy, but haven't had the chance to introduce myself yet, however I have a problem.

I was out on my CBR650R tonight and the yellow engine management light came on, the torque control light came on, and the bike seemed to limit its self (It was juddering when hitting a certain revs)
Is there a way I can tell what the EML light is on for? and does anyone have any ideas what may cause my issue?

Thanks,
Steve

Refer to the service manual, which is posted in the RESOURCE section,. There is a way to manually retrieve DTCs (Diagnostic Trouble Codes). Check Engine Light is officially called MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp)

So I checked the DTC and the code is for the throttle position sensor. It seems intermittent as when I reset the MIL sometimes the error goes away but comes back within 5 mins, sometimes it just stays on.

If I buy a new TPS do i need to calibrate it in any way? Or is it plug and play

TPS must measure a specific resistance. Check resistance and try to adjust. If resistance can't be reached ( as per service manual) TPS needs to be replaced.

It was 8 long blinks, I'm not sure if its high voltage or low voltage because I dont have the computer thing.
I have a new position sensor which is a JT7H. The resistance values are different to the sensor I removed from the bike. How is it altered / calibrated?

Loosen sensor (on bike). You can now turn sensor to change resistance. Adjust until proper resistance is reading. If resistance can't be reached replace with new sensor and adjust for resistance.

Shows how to check for high and low voltage. I don't see what resistance to set to . Taken from a '21 service manual. First time really using my manual, bike is new.

Okay so I’m still struggling with this. With the old sensor I could get it to reset and get a few miles down the road before it would error again, but since putting the new sensor on the error is on constantly. I have tried 2 different TP sensors too. Any advice?
