Original Holley carb from 1958 Ford pickup truck in process...I'll post before/after when completed. Per owners request we're keeping the look original as it was in '58. No painting (cheating in this case) so my goal is restoration, doing best I can to get it back to its original vibe while being fully functional. Lets see how she works out.

Interesting note...this old bugger (1 barrel) utilizes a brass float, ball check valves and (mainly) fixed drillings for fuel control. 2nd pic as bowl was removed.

In view of its age....I'm fully on my game, being both respectful and very very careful.

Coronavirus crap keeping me busy...carb backlog cleared today, focus now onward to a Honda 750 Shadow ACE V-twin dropped off here. Apparent carb/running issues and overdue service needs. Air filter and carb bowl gaskets ordered immediately.....a carb pull and valve clearance check to commence while awaiting delivery. Thankfully old fashioned screw and locknut rocker arm setup....EZ....2 intake/1 exhaust valve per cylinder, Keihin twin carbs.... should be a fun challenge. Different for sure.

2nd pic 250 ninja carbs done today, diagnosing/correcting a problem, refurb, all new consumables inside, setup, adjusted, wet tested. These'll be fine runners now.

Keihin carbs pulled out on this Honda Shadow....strange, non Keihin main jets.....stock uses 105 front cylinder, 110 rear. I've removed a main marked 86 from front.....and the rear is *unmarked*. Research reveals they are neither Factory Pro, Dynojet, Keihin or Mikuni.
Have yet to pull needles and see what that reveals. Will also measure and compare these jet ID versus stock size Keihin ID to try and make sense of this....done by a long prior owner...no one to ask where the hell these wacky things came from.

Edit: further inspection and research has revealed a Cobra Engineering Jet kit installed, a reasonable, known starting point in getting the running on this thing corrected.

I've been keeping busy by changing the exhaust on my 2020CBR650 (with 0kms), grilling, putting a carbon fiber optic water transfer film on my fender (first time), replaced the footpegs on my Yamaha Fazer, fixed a gouge on the wheel of my Challenger caused by an accident with a scooter, replaced my Fazer brake pads (front/rear), changed the brake fluid and painted the rear caliper. That's all I can show in 10 pictures...lol.

The Honda V carb set split, cleaned, properly reassembled using new orings, float valves and the Cobra Engineering jet kit that was installed long ago. I await delivery of new float bowl gaskets. Coupla pics, turning focus now onto valve clearance adjustments.

TY...as you well know, carbs so critical to good running...time/effort/investment is fully justified on this older stuff. Fun and challenging too. They will "make or break" the bike involved.

The Honda Shadow valve clearances done, ready to go back together when float bowl orings come in.

Next on the hit parade a 30mm Mikuni off a Yamaha IT125, a good deal of varnish goop inside this one.

Nice daylight pic of the painted engine case cover:
IMG_20200503_142607083.jpg

I decided to paint the top triple to match. The Nu-Cast engine enamel is a perfect match for the stock fuel filler cap, and it all looks good together. You might also notice the clip-ons. I'll have a write-up on them later.
IMG_20200503_142530836.jpg

I'll paint the cam cover whenever I decide on a paint/graphics scheme for the bike and remove the fuel tank. Until then, I'll just put up with it being a different color.

bowl gaskets, new air filter arrived, back to the Shadow V corona project. Maybe someday I'll actually have enough time to ride one o' my own motorbikes.

Edit carbs done, mounted, tomorrow judgement day, start, synch, pilot screw initial setups. I'll not test ride as this machine is not currently registered, i'll leave a longer ride up to the owner. Photo carbs in all their glory, sorry for lousy background scribble.

Edited to add: running exhibited extreme lean attributes, someone long ago threw the jet kit in this thing with zero tuning. As a result of some carb tweakage and voodoo, its now running like a champ, the owner will be amazed at the transition. Complete revision of the old, bastardized fuel piping needed, I await certain line, a Y fitting and a certain size of Oetiker clamps I ran out of. So while waiting......a set of EX500 carbs (my property) to be refurbed for sale.

I bought the Evotech Performance spindle bobbins and some new boots so I got them fitted and adjusted my brake pedal and shifter to compensate.

In other news, I had a tidy up in the garage and moved the chain cleaner and lube from one place to another. Today, I moved it back.....just because.
