The bike's alive!! And it was the simple solution all along. The mechanic gave it varying amounts of throttle when holding the starter button for what felt like an absolute age (easily 10-15 seconds, definitely not the 5 seconds recommended in the owners manual). After that he revved the absolute pants off it for another good minute to shove fuel down it's throat (to the enjoyment of my neighbors lol).
I'll take note of how it starts up over the next week just in case all the attempted starts knackered the spark plugs in some way!? Not sure if that's a thing but hey ho. One of my two starts afterwards was a lil sputtery but maybe I'm hyper aware now
And hopefully this helps anyone else having trouble starting the bike. I tried: pushing the fuel hoses about, WOT start, adding fuel, checking fuses, opening gas cap (that was on another thread here), charging battery, checking cranking voltage... but the solution was simple. Give 'er the beans
