All 650's Adjusting gear lever

Adjusting the gear lever height is one thing that will make your CB(R)650 feel much nicer to ride.

Here's how you do it... due to me having a massive argument with the BB code implementation on the forum post editor, it's a webpage.

Thank you so much for this, will try later today.
Will the QS change the procedure? I do not have it installed yet, but it will hopefully be fitted in August. Does that affect the lever position at all?

Can't comment on whether the shifter will adjust the lever position... I expect it would as the link rods change.

Adjustment procedure should be unchanged though.

Let us know!

Alright, thanks again. Will change it now and let you know once the QS is installed.

Gonna try this tomorrow, I’ve had frequent problems when shifting up from 1st to 2nd, lifted lever as high as it would go but still wouldn’t get into gear and would remain in neutral.

Does this work the same for CBR650R with QS installed?
I'm sure you know the answer by now (noting your question was from May 2019!), but I just did mine today and I have a 2019 CBR650R with a quickshifter (thanks Brammers @Brammers for the excellent guide!).

For anyone doing this for the first time, you may find the connecting rod tough to twist. Mine took a lot of twisting to loosen up, which was frustrating because I wasn't sure if I'd done it right. In hindsight, perhaps a dab of grease or WD40 before twisting may have helped, but once loose it was easy to adjust and I had a lot of movement to play with.

Settled on lowering by 10mm, which was is much better and I may even go a bit lower. Now enjoying smoother upshifts and I don't need to lift my leg to downshift! However, I did put it into 2nd instead of neutral a couple of times... 😁

Thanks Brammers, very helpful guide. I read the Honda manual instructions which kind of suggest there is only one position but clearly that is just a kind of starting point. I have some RST boots and actually needed to raise the lever to make it easier to get my toe under it. After a quick test ride I think I will need a little more adjustment but that will have to wait for another day - it’s getting dark out there!

The service manual is very clear on the point.

Other than that, I'd need to ask Honda. They usually have a good reason to state things like that.

It says the punched dot must align with the gap in the arm.

J
Hi Brammer, could you please elaborate on "the punched dot must align with the gap?"
I've got this pic from your post but I can't find the punched dot you have mentioned.

Edit: Ohhh I think I see it

Anyone tried the gear lever the opposite way, like to change up you downshift like the racers.

God I wish I had known this earlier. Ever since I misaligned the pinch bolt my transmission has never been the same.
