Sounds like some crummy electronics inside the light itself. I had the motodynamics in both my 650F and 600RR and no issues at all after thousands of miles.

Turning a slightly lighter color is normal on brake hoses. There are several detailing products on the market at the auto parts store to protect them but getting them back to the dark black may be difficult. I use Back-to-Black on trim pieces, check labels for safe on rubber.
