That’s the PAIR valves clicking. Lots of info in here for removing them so have a search.
Hey Mike,
I thought the same but it remained there after removing my PAIR valve 2 years ago. To me, it sounds like a characteristic of this engine. The best way to hear it is to listen through an Akra exhaust with no baffle.
this is mine. listen closely! it is noticeable out of the can too.
I have seen many many many CBs with the same noise! not sure what it is but not the PAIR Valve selenoids. it is most likely the DOHC assembly causing this noise.

I don’t hear any of the clicking/clacking noise I hear in the earlier video in yours. I know you’ve posted about you noise before, but I don’t hear anything in it than a normal, fuel injected 4 cylinder sound. Don’t underestimate how much noise fuel injectors can make, that I do hear in your video.

I’m not sure what he’s hearing, there not much if a description other than listen to this, but I clearly hear the PAIR valves in that video. But that may not be what they want us to listen to.

Hey Have you hear my video in previous page?, my ticking sound come from under fuel tank, not coming from engine. You think it PAIR valve ticking sound

Ticking sound from under the tank is definitely the PAIR, they are on top of the engine.

J
I drive my bike about 1000mile ( odo 15k mile when i buy it in dealer) and bike so smooth no stranger sound. Then i modification stock exhaust and i drive it more 700-800 mile. And ticking sound ( people say it PAIR valve) appear few days ago. Somethings happen make it on off and make this sound, ECU learning something and make it work. You can explaint me about it? Thanks you.

If a tick has appeared just after an exhaust swap, I'd say you have a leak and should replace the gaskets.

J
Follow your advise i replace exhaust gasket by myseft. Do marble in tube and change exhaust gasket the ticking sound now quiter than before. Thanks for your help.

Hi guys, I just purchase a new 2023 Honda CBR650R and just finished installing a full Black widow exhaust system.

I now have the same ticking noise ye guys are experiencing.

It's more noticeable when she's cold and the choke is on. It does kind of go out of it when the engine warms up and you would really have to be looking for the noise to notice it when warmed up.

Here's a video:

I replaced the header gaskets and checked for leaks and all is fine.

Bike is driving perfect and idling steadily at 1250 revs.

Here's a video AFTER she's warmed up:

Is this normal?

No I didn't touch the pair valve.

I took the back widow system off and put back on the OEM just to make sure I was setting the gaskets correctly and ticking noise disappeared.

Put back on the aftermarket system and noise is back.

I have read some say removing the pair valve helps and some say it makes no difference.

I also checked the fuel consumption. On a full tank I'm getting around 275kms riding around 6000 revs most of the time pushing up 8-10k when needed. Half motor way half town riding.

I can live with it but it's a bit odd it's not there with the OEM exhaust system on.

I presume the after market yoke has no cat? Dont think saw one in the video? Assuming new gaskets everything tightened and aligned.

Perhaps it's just acting like a megaphone for the top end of your engine?

Yeap I used OEM copper single use crush gaskets and everything tightened up to spec.
There definitely no air leaks I triple checked.

No CAT on the aftermarket exhaust system either.

Aftermarket pipes are 304 stainless steel. OEM are titanian. Could be echoing from top end maybe valves I don't know.

Ok guys this ticking noise got under my skin. I stripped my bike down again for the 3rd time!!

I know I've become a noise freek lol.

Anyhow, the good news no more ticking 😁

Instead of fitting the full aftermarket exhaust to the bike as one I installed each header pipe separately and bedded each cooper gasket slowly & carefully and then joined all four pipes to the center pipe.

Walla no more ticking sound:

My advice to anyone fitting a full aftermarket exhaust to their bike that experiences a ticking noise after the install is check and double check your manifold gaskets.

Happy riding!

It’s funny I’ve had this similar ticking noise on mine ever since I had my full Akra installed. I came on here looking for answers, and all I could find was “remove & block off the PAIR valve.”

Did that last weekend and the noise didn’t change at all - so now I’m going to assume it’s the gaskets on mine as well.

Buy a decent set of gaskets & take your time setting them one by one. Worked for me 😁
