I replaced a generic Bluetooth that I used last season. It worked ok but the sound quality was shit. So I stumbled upon this one installed on a Icon domain II blue sha do helmet used. It still has the box and all the directions and extras and chargers for $80 dollars so I quickly responded to the ad and purchased it.

I've been wanting a comm system for a while now, but haven't gotten around to pick one up.

I want to look into splitting the cost with a buddy I always ride with. Need to bring it up...

I want the 20S, but can't really justify it as the SMH10 is still working/going strong, 5 years later.
My son and I have recently "upgraded" from SMH10 to 20S. What a mistake!
It's true 20S has more features, an effective noise cancellation, and a more modern design, but if you use the unit for bike-to-bike communication, the actual intercom range of 20S is no more than 50m (SMH10 worked well for up to 1km). If there is a vehicle between the riders the signal breaks up. The volume is much softer too. Huge waste of money, IMO.

Is that with the little ariel up or down?

The aerials up on both units. Definitely.
We have also tried all settings available on the SENA mobile app in hope to boost the range somewhat, but the result is still rather disappointing.

The poor range of 20S is a widely discussed and complained about phenomenon (pity I did not do a better research before purchase).
I am only confirming the problem based on my own experience.

If you need it for solo rides, voice commands, phone connectivity, music, FM, GPS, pillion comms, etc. it is all great, but bike-to-bike comm is terribly disappointing especially if you used SMH10 previously.

We've had SMH10 for a couple of years now, the sound quality is far superior to our old Cardo Scala G4.

One thing I would like is voice to take priority over the sat-nav (Google maps on iPhone)

indeed. it works fine with priority over music though.

I suspect voice/intercom is on a different "channel" inside the SMH10 so they can't both be on.

Can you use the Satnav voice and speak? Maybe not at the same time but the Satnav doesn't say that much and those commands are higher priority than the chatter from the missus.

I think actually I have had the intercom on and sat nav overriding it at junctions. Not sure though.

I use Android not iOS though, so that may make a difference.

I have the SMH5's for me and the passenger; work great, cheap and easy to use. If I had to do it over I would have bought the 10's but the wife wasn't sold on them so I didn't want to spend too much and find out she didn't like them.

10's seem to be the sweet spot, not heard great things on the 20's.

I've been using the SMH10 since 2012 and can't fault it. Mainly I use it to stream music, but it's handy to be able to take the occasional, brief, call. A few mates and I pair up via the intercom and it's able to connect non-Sena units as well. I'd like to get the 20S, but mine is still going strong.

Everything I've read (including in this topic) makes the 20S sound like a bad investment.

I'm just amazed that out of 37 members 7 + 1 soon to be people have got the same make of Intercoms. I'd never heard of Sena before (it's the name of a fanatical Hinu organisation over here).

Now I want one, and to quote GPJake @haqzore "Well I never even wanted one until this thread was made.... Which one of you can I refer my wife to for explanation? :angelic:"
