You got me on this one! I can see where it's supposed to be as in page 4.6 of the service manual. Am I missing something here Brammers @Brammers ? :banghead:

Yep. You got it. Genius at work! :D Its where some one has stuck the heated grips into. Unplugged it and there's the red plug...... First code, one blink to confirm I understand. Second set two long. Third set nine short. Fourth set three long. Fifth set eight short. Deleted as per manual. Start up no mil but still high tickover. Think the mil was on because I had the plugs off the airbox last night?

Probably a wild stab in the dark here but have any of you guys had any stale petrol issues?

I'm really confused as to why heated grips would be plugged into the dtc port.

Stale petrol would make it not start or run rough.

I'm still thinking map hose is split. I'm sure baugustine @baugustine will turn up and say high idle is an air leak somewhere.

I need to visualise it... Send lots of pics of all hoses and plugs etc. please!

How does it ride?

Started checking the air pipes over tonight , can't see anything obvious still apart from the 'pair' valve is not working as stated on page 7.21 in the manual. There's a 12volt feed to the plug with the ignition on but air still flows from 'a to b' with ignition on or battery disconnected. I've noticed you guys have a 'pair' valve modification. Is this a relevant problem with cb650's?
Time to take a good look at that plug in on the DTC, it's not to the heated grips, it's to a gear change indicator. :banghead:

Might to put the airbox back on first?

Pic of it reassembled will be more useful, otherwise we can't tell what's missing/out of place.

The good news.
Thursday evening I left the bike with the battery disconnected. This morning I have reinstalled the battery connections. Reinstalled the PAIR system and WD40'd the plug. Reinstalled the airbox. Checked out the feeds to all the plugs with a multimeter. WD40'd all the plugs and refitted. The bike now runs as it should do. Tickover is around 1200rpm where it always was. it revs cleanly and no mil light on. Perfect. My thoughts are that baugustine @baugustine was on the right track with maybe a bad connection on the IACV and the WD40 has just cleaned it up a bit. I am interested in all your thoughts baugustine @baugustine Brammers @Brammers miweber929 @miweber929 volkein @volkein please.

The bad news.
I am now off to find a short piece of rope!:banghead::banghead::banghead::):):)

Glad to hear it’s sorted. As to the why it happened, what happened and why it’s better, it’s hard to say other than it’s obvious something wasn’t making a good connection and now is. baugustine @baugustine was pointing towards the IACV and it would seem to the likely culprit, but I’m surprised if it was a bad connection there it didn’t throw an MIL light.

Regardless, you’re back in business, that’s what matters.

I think it was on here we had a member that “plugged” the MAP sensor back in but missed the nipple and inserted the hose off to the side. It looked and felt plugged in, he had checked it a couple times but the bike threw a code and had a fast idle; I’m not saying that’s what it was but things like that happen which is why when you do something and the bike doesn’t work after, retracing ALL your steps sometimes is the best action.

Good job on fixing it!!!

Not being there, I’d only be guessing, but the battery reset also forced a relearn of the IACV. It could have been stuck in a non-closed position, had some crud in it, etc.

Can't really talk about it, a friend told me to check the double pin connector below the clutch lever. Glad you sort it tho.
