Engine swap

Hello everyone, i have a 2018 cb650f and it has 56k miles on it. When purchased the owner told me it has a suspected head gasket leak. No water in the oil when i drop it there was a little on the dipstick but think it could just be condensation from sitting as it was near the thread side of the dipstick.
My question is would a older cb650r or the newer cb650r engine be a straight swap as there are a few on ebay for pretty cheap?? Honda want silly money to do a head gasket replacement if it is an issue and does end up needing to be replaced. I can bolt in a complete engine for cheaper but is just plug and play as far as different engine years are concerned or will they not work with the 2018 abs model ??

I am currently swapping a 2019 engine into a 2016 due broken crank bearings

Frame is the same. even the 2024 ones
None of things that connects to the engine have changed either then i am guessing? Just buy the engine and swap it out plug all the old bits in and job done or does anything else need to be changed??

enshiu @enshiu is I think one of the few who have done this but I believe we were told by someone that the crank sensor or something like that had changed/moved.

the gear indicator sensor is different just need to find out which wire goes to neutral.

The rest is like a straight swap

Are you sure its a headgasket leak? Never heard of this

Service manual has wiring diagram in the back. Should be easy to work it out from that.

J
see other topic.

I got the engine in.

- all coolant hoses fit.
- all coolant steel connections fit
- all intake rubbers fit
- all spark plug cables fit they are different spark plugs but, the cables fit
- EOP fits
- ECT fits
- CKP fits
- alternator not sure but, it came without one so put the old one over
- all coolant gasket fits
- starter fits
- TB fits
- clutch cable fits
- AIS fits
- exhaust fits
- VSS fits
- engine hangers fit

Need to redo:

- Neutral switch (2019 does have gear indicator) wiring only redo
- spacer for gear shifter
