Exactly. There's a couple of people who are using cbr650r (2019) dipsticks in the older models to achieve exactly that.
I wouldn't, but it seems to be working OK for them.

can you record it?Back to the original topic but this 'rattle can' noise is really starting to annoy me. It dominates every ride and doesn't ease off as the engine gets warm. What 'exactly' is it that rattles so much ? The bike still has 6 months Honda warranty to run and I presume removing anything from the engine would invalidate the warranty !?

You Serious?????!!!!
thanks, not sure how to record stuff and post it ( I'm what they call a bit of a Luddite here ) I did read somewhere that the PAIR valve opens up engine noise. Sounds a bit daft maybe but I think it might just be engine noise that somehow is amplified by the tank , it is quite loud with the helmet visor open. I have had several 4 cylinder bikes, 600 and 900 Yamaha Diversions, Suzuki 1200 Bandit, Honda CB1000FA but they didn't rattle like the cb650f.top end rattle is pretty normal on 4 cylinder bikes. but rattle at idling can be of loose parts. send the file to me directly.
What mods have you done? If I may askthanks, not sure how to record stuff and post it ( I'm what they call a bit of a Luddite here ) I did read somewhere that the PAIR valve opens up engine noise. I believe the engine cases are thinner nowadays to keep weight down which doesn't help with noise reduction.
If you still have the PAIR valve in and working, yes, this bike for some reason had an ungodly loud PAIR valve that sounds like a can of bolts shaking at idle to around 3K rpms or so. It annoyed the hell out of me at first but I got used to it and wore ear plugs so it stopped being an issue.thanks, not sure how to record stuff and post it ( I'm what they call a bit of a Luddite here ) I did read somewhere that the PAIR valve opens up engine noise. Until I’d ride the bike again without ear plugs in or up the block to get gas without a helmet on, then I’d remember I wanted to block the PAIR system.
No idea why it’s so loud on this bike, but it is.
Engine crash bungs ,front fender extender, givi rear rack arms for top box baseplate , scottoiler V system chain oiler , that's about it , no modifications to engine , fuelling or exhaust system. What mods have you done? If I may ask
Well there is that. But earplugs work great on that noise, too!!!!Thank God you've now got a Ducati instead. Ducati's never sounded like a box of loose screws

Hahahaha dry clutch?!I once heard a ducati describe thus:
Sounds like a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin.
For the USA guys:
Sounds like a Skelton jerking off in a cookie tin.

Yeah, we were all surpirsed, thank god it didn't cause any damageYou Serious?????!!!!
