CB650F SW-MOTECH Crash Bars?

Hi there,

I've followed quite a few threads here regarding sliders and crash bungs, and also seen lots of bad ones. Went to my local Honda dealership today and they told me about SW-MOTECH German brand crash bars and handle protectors. The bars look really good in picture I think and look like they do a very good job at protecting the engine so I'm surprised I haven't seen them mentioned here.

This is what driving schools put on their learner CB's here so should be a solid choice. Anyone tried them?

I've seen them around online in plenty of places and photos too. They look incredibly sturdy and can understand why they're fitted to learner bikes. I'd be interested to see the points of contact if the bike was laid down with that fitted.

I've not tried them, I have Top Block Racing frame sliders. I think it's the aesthetics, that the majority prefer the form over function. Not that they're hideous, just very big.

The dealership said the bar will be pretty much in full contact with the ground, together with foot peg and handlebar. So the engine would not be in any contact with the ground. The bike definitely looks better without them to be honest, but I've gone ahead and ordered these anyway because not constantly worrying about dropping my baby is going to make riding more enjoyable :p

While I can't speak for those crash bars in particular (have never seen them mounted on a 650f either), SW Motech has a great reputation and is known for their built quality. If you like the look I would say go for them.

koofdome @koofdome Those look like the R & G ones we posted here:

Do they affect anything with adjusting the chain during normal maintenance? I hate having to use a stand that has rubber L shaped arms under the swing arms. I want something more sturdy like a swingarm spool to use!

If you read that linked post above it should answer all your questions (and maybe create a few more). I’ve been using them for 4 years and no issues. Quality piece.

Or, you could invest in an ABBA stand, which may be the best bet. Get the front end lift with an ABBA stand and you'll be set.

I trust Baugustine's advice and experience with the spools. (My fear is that the weight of the rear will snap part of the swing arm when lifted. This MAY NOT be the case...but the thought is stuck in my head so spools are a no-go for me!)

Problem is, you'll have to go back to the pads when you change a wheel. (If you ever plan to do so...or need to!) With those ABBA stands it's a one-and-done! (Admittingly, I do not own an Abba stand but I'm really thinking about investing in one. I don't have a big issue with using the front and rear stands...but it's just one more thing, whereas the Abba is a once-on.)

Just an observation: I invested in the ABBA a few months ago, and it is awesome. BUT...with the track stands I can have the bike lifted in about 20 seconds, front and rear. The setup time on the ABBA is a few minutes on a good day. If you are doing major work, its the only way to fly but wheel cleaning, chain maintenance, etc, the track stands are way faster.

The brackets the spools screw into is a very hard plastic composite, which replaces the aluminum spacers. Highly doubtful under normal usage they would break. Drop the bike at 80 mph probably, but that will be the least of your concerns...

Hey, did you buy the bar and install it? I just received mine and am going to install it in a couple of days. I am just wondering if you have any tips about the installation, especially around the comments in the instructions where it says about the horn? Thanks,

I'm looking to buy this for a 2020 CB650R but the swmotech site lists two different options for a "RH02" vs an "RH08" and I have no idea how to tell which designation applies to my bike. I thought there was really only one variant of this bike. Can anyone help me figure this out?

Hello.

I am very on the fence with ordering these. Are they easy to install and Uninstall? Do they actually protect the full engine? Would love to have them for slow speed practice in parking lots.

For anyone interested I did buy them. Once I get them installed I will post pictures of the process and final product installed. I might even lay it over to see what makes contact.
