STEP 1: Buy Smart Moto Blanking plates for the CB/CBR650F from Ebay. (think no one needs instructions for this!)

STEP 2: LEFT HAND PAIR PORT - Blanking plate, two aln bolts with washers

STEP 2: Flip the blanking plate over and use insulation tape on the end where the reed valve screw heads protrude.

STEP 3: Align the blanking plate on the PAIR Port (LH shown here) Try being gentle, once aligned press the plate with some force (do not need to be brutal!). The REED Screwheads will leave a mark on the tape. (picture 2 below has not come out well but you can see it)

STEP 4: Using the marks as guides, start with a 4mm drill, apply light pressure, and create dimples

STEP 5: Keep checking with if the plate aligns, at this point it will not but will give you an idea. Keep drilling using the 4mm as guide in 1mm increments. Below is an 8mm dimple

I had finally made a 10mm dimple, this will give you room to move incase you are slightly off in your alignment.

STEP 6: Check again, usually you feel a 'grippy rubber' when you move the plate over the port, this means you are flush and can not install the bolts. USE THREADLOCK and stop tightening as soon as the bolt stops moving. Don't over tighten!

STEP 7: The removed PAIR valve and corresponding pipes.

Hope this helps anyone who was looking for an alternative way to do the PAIR VALVE REMOVAL

Has anyone done this to a 2017/2018 model? Wondering if there could be any issues with the electrical hookup not being reconnected? Do you need to keep the reeds or can you remove them and eliminate the 10mm settling holes?

I have not installed any resistor. It won't really make a difference.

2017 + owners be warned your Engine Light "MIGHT" latch on! not to worry just get a reset done which takes a couple of minutes. There has been a case recently, but the owner got it reset and the light is off now.

It won't make the bike non functional it just is annoying to have an engine light on when there is no technical fault.

What happens if we don't dimple the replacement plates but just screw them on after removing the pair valve assembly? Removing the pair valve stops the glass marbles sounds completely? Ridiculous this bike ships with this noise. It's 30+c and rattling all the time.

It won't be sealed. You need the rubber seals left behind. You can remove the Reed valves "flaps" from the holder like I did. This is likely to trash the vales though (did for me) requiring new parts to revert to stock.

So to be clear removing the assembly, inner flaps (likely damaged in removal and to be replaced if reverting to stock at some point) and leaving rubber seals before installing plates is all needs be done to end the rattling? Seems simple enough even for me. Any further caveats? No more rattling once done or other issues? Thanks.

either remove the REED valves that sit in the ports or you have to get the dimples done as the screw heads on the REED valve stick out a little and wont let the plates sit flush, hence, no seal.

I left the REED valves in as I can loose things very easily lol! Also, the rubber edging they have acts as a seal when the plates are flush. So double benefits.

Is it a case of destroying the reeds to slide them up and out? Are they metal reeds which is what's causing the metal marbles rattle we all hear? I would prefer to remove than make dimples as long as the rubber will sit right to make a seal!

The reeds should technically unscrew from the holding plate (allowing for refitting later). However mine were coked up and the screws snapped.

The site was down when I attempted this today. I remembered reading about drilling relief holes in the plates, but could‘t remember where or why, so I downloaded the instructions from their website as a guide.

Exactly what you experienced. I broke all 4 screws trying to remove them! Reading your post, I feel better it wasn’t just me that had that issue. Engine is definitely much smoother at lower RPMs.
