Hey guys, this is actually my first bike and my first time ever riding a bike. After a few weeks of research, I decided to go with the CB650R. No regrets! I picked up fundamentals rather quickly driving a stick and all, but I have ALOT more to learn. Nice to meet you guys!

Thanks guys, I literally got the bike because of the traffic in the inner city. I run around downtown too often and would rather maneuver in a bike than a car haha

welcome nice bike. Just always remember as a new rider if you think SHOULD I (do this do that ) when it comes to pulling out filtering and other stuff DON’T. Sorry if I sound like a dad but road safety is my job. But saying that you enjoy the bike. I asked a police motorcycle officer a question years ago and he said if I was behind you would you do it , so that’s what I always think 👍😎

I appreciate the wisdom, I just got in from practicing actually. What I have to get used to is the speed; I feel like I'm going so fast at 30 mph on the street, but that's slow to cars haha. I also watch Motojutsu a lot on YouTube. I was watching him before I got the bike haha

Hey uget1_chaunce, I'm Ray from the UK. Ive got the same bike in black and I've 'only' been riding for 7 years(started at 41 years old!). We could talk about bikes, riding, safety and the like for ages! This bike world is fascinating. There are a couple of things you can do to control your speed. One of them is riding at a higher gear. Your CB650R has a very 'flexible' engine and it can handle to be ridden at 30mph in 4th or even 5th gear. Try that when 'cruising'. Now, if you need acceleration(i.e. to get out of the way from danger), go down to 2nd gear, but in most cases, when you're maintaining speed, try go up a gear(or two) and you'll see that it is a lot easier to maintain that speed.
On top of everything else, and to add to what Robbymag said on another comment, make sure you have a good awareness of your surroundings. Don't forget to do shoulder checks before changing lanes(every time, without exception), or check your mirrors before decelerating, or check if anyone is coming on your left when you do a right turn(even if you have right of way). Check, check, check and keep checking!
But, above all, HAVE FUN WITH THE THING! Motorcycles are amazing machines. Enjoy it.
Cheers, Ray from UK.
