New Rack and Gel Seat

To try and make my missus more comfortable (more to do with leg room) I fitted the gel seat and also the Shad Rack and Top box last weekend. After a stationary try she reckons its much better so hoping to get a good run this coming weekend to try it out.
Also fitted a PIAA Horn as its small enough to replace the excuse for a Honda peep ! Nice and loud and no relays, etc, it is a bit vulnerable but is is about the same position as original, it will have to do until I can figure out somewhere else to put it !

I've heard the gel covers (in general/any bike) work well, but have 2 issues in common:

• Can get hot in hot weather, due to no air channels.
• Inevitably start to deteriorate, as is normal with gel, and can cause a mess (stickiness, little bits getting out, etc).

We used one with my wife for several years before we got the Big Bertha bike that solved the uncomfortable passenger issue once and for all.

Both items @haqzore mentioned are true, just be aware of them and you’ll be fine. My wife also did not like the feeling that she was slightly sliding around all the time, that was tiring to her but the Shad case should help.

I used a gel seat pad for over 10 years, still have it. Gel has not deteriated and cushion does not get hot even in the sun.
Why, because it has a layer of memory foam over it. The brand is Air Rider. It does add 3/4 inch to your seat height.
But does not use air cushion like Air Hawk Which does cause you to move around on the air pocket cells.
I did wear out the outer fabric cover and the memory foam does erode over time. But I bought a new cover from the company and bought my own memory foam at JoAnn Fabrics.

Well we have done a few hundred miles since fitting it and its been great and missus a lot more comfortable, mainly coz of the extra leg room so more smiles on the way !
