Hi all, male 54, only just decided this year to finally do my bike test... should have done it years ago but would probably have died early šŸ™„
So, mod1 in the bag, no faults.. mod 2 in just over a week...
and I've bought the bike.... cbr650F - AH 2018, absolutely mint condition, full service history, akrapovic exhaust, oxford heated grips..
I cannot wait to get on and ride the absolute wheels off it... very carefully of course... still getting used to riding in general but havent managed to scare the instructors yet 🤣
Been trying to drive the van like I ride a bike, not ride a bike like I drive the van...
Any and all tips welcome..
Cheers. Chris 🄳

Welcome aboard! Best of luck with your Mod 2 — you’re nearly there now. My biggest bit of advice (for the test and for your early riding) is that safety is everything. Treat the bike as if it’s the width of a car and don’t put yourself into any gap you wouldn’t drive a car through.

If you do make a mistake, don’t let it rattle you. If it’s done safely, the examiner will usually let it slide. Turn the page, carry on, and show them you’re in control.

Get to the test rested, fed and hydrated, and honestly… a banana beforehand has never let me down. Little boost, no nerves on the stomach.

You’ve absolutely got this — hope to see you out on the road soon!

Oh, and as macRoadster says, Pics Please! ;-)

I practice "life savers" in the car constantly before my test. Its too expensive to mess up on a silly mistake. As has been said, relax, and don't get put off by what you percieve to be an issue, if you're in control and confident you will be fine.

My test was in poring rain, the examiner in a car. My trainers last words of advice were:
Its up to him to follow you, if you don't loose him at least twice you're not trying. If he can't see you he cant fail you.
Having passed, the journey back to drop the bikes off was a bit of a concern as the trainer wanted to get warm n dry!

😁 Cheers for the warm welcome guys.. mod 2 went reasonably well (I passed) but got 3 faults for turning left! kept swinging out into position 3 from 2 or 2 from 1 and didnt even realise I was doing it until the examiner told me to watch it before someone tries to quickly do me on the outside just before I turn so I'm aware of it now... just got to get used to the bike, dont know if this is right place but pic requested and here she is... Sounds absolutely insane coming up the deep cut slip roads onto the dual and letting her rev out a bit... I ordered a chinese gear shift indicator that hasnt arrived yet as I thought I might need it being new but in all honesty, if the thing ever gets here I might not even bother because it doesnt seem to be an issue, I can pretty much tell what gear Im in from the tone of the howl and thats only after 3 shortish rides.. I have also ordered some mirror extension blocks though as I need to lean forward and drop my elbows to see behind me and that is more a pain in the arse than anything if Im just cruising... anyone else feel the same about the stock mirrors?

Looks good. I always did like the red/black version.

Gear indicator is handy for a quick glance before you get to a junction, but yeah at the end of the day, gear doesn't matter so long as the engine is spinning freely and happy.

Good job on the mod2! Congrats.

Congrats on the Pass, well done! She looks amazing!
Yes the mirrors are fantastic if you want to check the inside of your elbows! Extenders definitely the way to go IMO, they didn't make them perfect, but much more useful.
I did find that it was after i passed my test i really started learning, be safe and when you are ready i recommend picking up a copy of Roadcraft, i found it really improved my riding and awareness.
I would be interested to know what brand those crash bars are, they look proper beefy!
Enjoy yourself and Ride Safe!

Bike mirrors are pants, its always a compromise on how much you see behind you and how much you want of your arms showing. bloody nightmare when I have the full waterproofs on.
