CB650R Limited speed?

Had an opportunity to take the bike on a long straight ish run to get the speed up. For info it’s a cb650r 2019.

Granted being a cb650r this is rare and it’s not like for general road riding and commuting will be the case.

When I got into 6th gear, at 116mph and 6k rpm it just stopped pulling and wouldn’t go above 6k.

When I bought the bike I was told it’s not restricted but I suspect that’s the first thing to check given the above. I’m guessing the first part / most obvious will be the trumpets?

I plan on doing this tomorrow but just wondering what others have had out of theirs in the right opportunity? If it’s not restricted is there something else that could be the issue?

I’ve seen posts about numbers of teeth on sprockets which can affect either top end or acceleration (if ive understood that right), but again no idea if it would have that much impact?

Maybe the age and mileage of the bike has generally lost a bit? It’s a few years old and now 32k miles. Bought at 25k.

I’m reading and YouTubing my way around jobs on the bike, so still learning. It could also be that I’m a bit heavier than the factory setting rider but would that just cause the revs to stop at 6k in 6th?

My main thinking is, if it’s restricted I’d like to de restrict as I read the power delivery is a lot better and smoother. I don’t need to go 140mph but keen to make sure I’m used to the full power before I even consider changing bike.

I’ve tried searching but either I’m naff at searching here or I can’t really find my issue..

Thanks in advance

116mph at 6k rpm!?
My CB (2024 version) at 6k rpm it goes like 80mph. That's a big difference!
You might have the restricted version 🙄

That is quite a difference. I wonder if it’s more along the lines of 5th to keep pulling and 6th to cruise where you are because of the gearing / ratios / isn’t 6th the “overdrive”?

Wondering if it would potentially be the different sprockets / teeth numbers.

When it’s a bit clearer outside here I’ll try and dig around on the bike.

A better way to describe it would almost be if you set your limiter on a car to say 70mph. It reaches that point then it just stops doing anything.

I’m not looking to ride that quick in general, but it just made me wonder about whether something is limited / making it do that really..

Could be, since it hits 6k at such speed.
But for someone to change them like that... only useful if the bike also had a turbo to boost it to higher revs /speed

Update, I redid the test. Turns out it’s around 8km rpm not 6. And it pulled a little more but I guess with various factors such as wind, rider weight etc. it’s never going to be a perfect test.

Wonder if that sounds more akin to what it should be?

I haven’t, but I shall follow on that as well. I still haven’t had the chance to have a poke around the bike and see some mentions in that thread of things to check.
