Just wondering if anyone has speakers in their helmets? If so what ones do you have and do you recommend them?

I’ll be using my bike a lot more commuting soon so I’d like to hear traffic alerts from a sat nav and music.

I have a Shoei helmet and it has already some holes to install internal speakers, so I though let's take advantage of it and skip those helmet appendices that we usually see around.
And I just put in there some cheap 20 Eur bluetooth intercom from Gearbest (or alike).

To me it's enough to be able to ear traffic and radar alerts, and that ocasional call.
It's also great to navigate with GPS instructions.

Of course at this price level you won't get any fancy feature, like volume adjustment and such. Neither is appropriate if you plan to ride in group and get always voice-connected to others.
You can install an automation app in your phone (I like Macrodroid, but Tasker is another great one) and get at least spoken SMS + auto reply while driving, for instance.

For above daily usage, the battery lasts around 4 to 5 weeks.
Less if I listen to Spotify more often, or go for a long GPS-assisted ride over weekend.

Example:
Motorcycle Helmet Headset Rain Proof Stereo Earphones Black Bluetooth

I have a Cardo Packtalk Bold. It's very similar to Sena's stuff (but better) (and cheaper :p)
Alright, can’t say it’s better without an explanation!!!!!

I have a Sena 30k and other than a bad software interaction with the latest iOS version that was solved with a new software update, it’s been great.

I’d suggest the 20S as a better value, however.

I have the 30K too and apart from not being able to listen to the music whole connected to BT intercom with other 20 and 20s users, have had no issues.

Also found a solution for the audio multi-tasking while connected to the BT intercom, but haven't ridden out with any 20/20s friends to test yet.

Will report back once I test it out.

RyanF9 explains best

Ahhh, good ol’ F9 again........can’t figure out why everyone loves him and his reviews so much........

I’ll say this: I didn’t pay anywhere near retail for my 30K, besides the screw up with the iOS and firmware i mentioned above that screwed up at an inopportune time it’s paired great, for what I use mine for 99% of the time (talking to my passenger, grabbing a call or listening to music) it’s done it’s job well and the vast majority of riders I run into and places that sell them are using Sena.

It’s all about what works best for the user. I don’t think GoPro is the best action camera out there, but since it’s the easiest to find I think it’s the better one to buy.

To be completely honest In was in initially just yanking your chain. I don't think the two systems will differ that much for 90% of the users. I just happened to stumble upon a decent deal for the Cardo ones and went with that.

I have the Cardo Pack Talk.
I led a group riders, we have 15 of us all hooked up and communicate at the same time.
I have had Cardo units for years the Q2, G4,G9. the Bluetooth they used was terrible compared to the DMC they use now.
Anyone hooks up immediately to others in the group and (the leader) need not be present.
We have 5 guys in the group that previously used Sena's but have switched to Pack Talks.
Some of the guys use all the features to play music from their phone, and to use their gps through it.
I just use it for intercom, and to call or answer calls on my phone.
Being able to communicate to the group, helps us to ride safer. I can warn them about any road hazards (pot holes, things in the road, sand or gravel in a corner) also having the last rider keep me informed if everyone made it through a traffic light.
We really like our Pack Talks!

I installed the EJEAS E6. Clarity of the speakers is good, the noise cancelling ability of the microphone is excellent. People who have called me are surprised to know that I am riding a motorbike after I tell them. You can have full duplex conversations with 1 other linked system, even though it says you can connect up to 6 riders you have to select each of the other 4 by pressing a button on the side of the unit. The buttons themselves are too small to be adequately pressed with motorcycle gloves on. As I only use this for receiving phone calls and navigation that part doesn't bother me. Further details for each of the units they put out is on the EJEAS website.

The unit I got came with a boom microphone that is suitable for open face helmets as well as a mic on a wire that is secured inside the helmet in front of your lips. I'm not sure if other brands come with both sorts of mics. You should check that whichever brand you get is suitable for the helmet you wear. Also check that your helmet has spots for the speakers so that they aren't sitting on top of the foam of the helmet but rather the helmet is indented where the speakers are to be mounted.
