The biggest expense will be the engine block. It could be put back on the road after that for very little money.

This is the truth. If you’re a mechanical person, or are friends with someone who is, it’s a nice weekend project. If not, a shop will charge quite a bit but all is not lost. I’d also start looking around for a used motor, these bikes are cheap to get into and a lot of times sold to newer riders so it should be fairly reasonable to get into a used motor.

Sorry about the lack of insurance, it happens and that’s how we learn about things. It sucks to be young!!!!

I dont have full insurance :( I don't have the money for it. The price for the bike was 6.500€ and I am still a student. My income isn't very high. I could only afford it because I sold my last bike.

The insurance I have is 300 a year. Full coverage costs over 1000€. Way too high for me. That's what I thought at least. You are always smarter afterwards... Really dumb decision. Comparing the 1000€ against a new bike.
It happens buddy. Don't be too hard on yourself.

Live & learn, and ride again. 👌

Update on the bike:

Sry that it took me a little bit longer.

The front forks are bend or broken and like we all saw in the pictures, the engine has a hole where the coolant came out of.

Now I have to make a big decision:

1. Sell the bike. It is probably worth around 1000-1500€. At least thats what they told me. Maybe you guys know better.

2. Repair the bike for estimated 3000€. But I am not sure if I should do it. Reselling it is really difficult and i loose a lot of money. Also i don't know if it is ever gonna be like it was before...

1.1 Buy the same bike again investing 5000€ + 1000€ from the crashed bike
1.2 Buy another bike for less money
I could get a gixxer 600 for 4000€. Basically the 3000€ i would use to repair the old one plus the 1000€ from the crashed one.

What would you do? I think the same bike is to expensive for me... Repair or another bike?

Vector, this is a hard decision to make ,the repair estimate sounds a bit rich at $ 3000, maybe you should
shop around for a better price at different repair shops.I would sooner fix it than give it away at 1000-1500.
But that's me,the choice is yours.

I think if every part which has been bent or broken is replaced, the end result can be as good as a new bike. Of course you need a proper mechanic and probably a lot of expensive replacement parts.

Option 1.1 - This is not really an option as you don't have enough money.
Option 1.2 - I wouldn't buy an other bike (cheaper, older, used, no knowledge about the history of the bike). I would be dissatisfied every time I look at it.
Option 2 - I would get my bike fixed. I would trust the quality of the repair and this seems to me the cheapest option too.

Here in the UK if that happened I would be taking photographs of the road and my bike at the time of the accident, and put a claim in. I know that's not much use to you now. Had you thought of seeking legal advice, I think in the UK we get the first 10 to 20 free. Is the frame slider manufacturer partly to blame. Just trying to help buddy. If you was over here we would all muck in and help.

sure you will get many years of great riding.I have had mine for over 4 years now and i can
say it is one of the best bikes i have own and i have had many, good luck to you Vector on
what ever you decide.

So I am gonna give you an Update on this thread.

Repairing this bike was too expensive, because not only the engine got damaged, but also the forks.

So today I made a deal with my local dealer and I preordered my new CBR650R.
It will probably be delivered around April.

I ordered it with the Quickshifter, Heating Grips, 12V charger and the touring glass.

Awesome day! I am really looking forward to the day of delivery. Once I got my bike I will open a new thread talking about the differences and how it performs compared to the previous model.

Thank you all for the support I got after the accident! You are an awesome community.

Of all the target buyers Honda would have thought of for the new 650R, a totaled 650F owner would probably have never been considered in their venn diagrams and pie charts :p

Well it was an economical decision for me.

The CBR650F was the perfect bike for me which fits all of my needs. Not too much power, but enough if you ride with someone on the back. Comfortable for long rides and i love the appearance.

The big problem for me was, that i spend more than 6k on the wrecked one maybe half a year ago. I can't afford at the moment buying another one for that price.

So i am financing the new one with hondas 50/50 offer.

The first 50% at once. A big part of it is the old bike and help from my parents.

I am a student, but i got a little job. So i have enough time to earn the second 50% in the two years.

Maybe it is not the wisest decision, but i want to keep the bike and not go higher. Also my father is going to pay for the insurance. This time with full coverage.

This and the fact that if i would like to resell it in a few year i am going to get more for the newer version are the reason why i buy the r instead of the f

Great news, looking forward to hearing a real riders report on the differences. Honda is real good about making incremental changes every few years and making great products even greater (look at the evolution of the Accord as an example). The 14 is a great bike, assuming the 19 is even better with the upgrades they did.

Congrats on the new bike. The circumstances that got you to this point suck but it's great to hear the proverbial rain clouds are clearing up for you and the sun is peeking through.

Here's to April :)

Congrats on the decision Vector - glad you managed to come to a conclusion that means you can feel excited about the future and not worrying about what you might have been able to do differently.

This sounds like an excellent solution :)
