I had these exact issues on my old sv650. She was stored outside and the wiring loom was just old I had to clean up the connections every so often. The problems would come back in winter when its damp outside. I nearly got stranded one time I town as the cluster was flashing on and off but i jiggled the wiring loom (near the cluster) with a screw driver and it fired up fine. Not very safe if i was riding along though could be prone to cutting out haha

I just reckon it needed a new wiring loom as I beleive that was a maintenance task in the manual? It was 20 years old fuel injected as well.

Took the battery around the corner to get it load tested for shits and giggles. Someone here said it would fail a load test and I think it did. Dropped down to 9 volts. I did this because I put it on my 500 yesterday and it fired right up... but it was fully charged when I turned it off. I tested it today and it had dropped to 12.20 just sitting there doing nothing. This raised a red flag. Gonna buy a new battery I think. Apologies for seeming to refute your analysis. It just seems unlikely that a $130 battery would die in less than 3 months. A new one just might fix this issue outright. If the new battery dies quick like the last one It's gotta be the stator not charging

...... new battery seems to have done the trick... Tested the voltage at 5000 rpm after a short ride. Seems to be right around 14.25-30.... lets hope that was a bad battery and this is over. I gotta get back to work.

That was me and yeah, 9 volts under load is a bad battery.

Could still be a charging system issue that made it early fail, however so if you’ve learned anything here here it should be listen to people offering help. My advice: fully check your charging system per the instructions in the service manual I linked earlier. Then you’ll know if it was a battery issue or bike issue.

Also, a 3 month old failed battery should be covered under its warranty so I’d contact where you bought it from for the replacement.
