CB650R Anyone have a scratch on the area beside the header pipes?

Anyone have a scratch like this under the bike? I thought it was mud at first but closer look says its a scratch, maybe from the rocks or whatever is hitting it. My bike is only 1200kms and I'm bothered that this part got scratched.

I've noticed mine starting to do that, it looks like it is getting blasted by tiny debris from the front tire.

Yeah it’s like sandblasted from the front tire. I got some tiny spots but it’s nothing compared to your damage. I have a belly pan that protect the engine a little bit, so that helps. That part of the engine is really exposed.

yup seems like its getting sandblasted especially in the rain. I checked other people's bikes same as mine and they also have the same problem. A belly pan could lessen it but I can't get myself to install it since it kills the bike's retro looks for me

Short front mudguards are the problem. A fender extender helps but even then the mudguard is hardly long enough because they are too short to start with. The Suzuki SV650 is even worse ,it really needs an extension to the fender extender ! I wish they would make bikes with proper mudguards or provide optional longer mudguards to provide sensible protection from muck thrown up from the road. A similar thing applies to rear mudguards - this fashion for tail tidies- sh*te.

The pan handle tail on the 650R is ugly though. The facelift has dealt with this by making out of aluminium. Helpfully it's not backward compatible!
