Hello. This is my first thread here.

I decided on the 2022/2023 CBR650R for my second bike about a few weeks ago.

I have since been calling around local honda dealers and have realized something - this bike is not for sale anywhere, and the sales people have zero clue when they can sell me it.

Most of them just promise me it in a vague time frame if i give them my deposit.... But online you hear of people getting bikes they ordered in january just now.

Just mostly wanted to vent but also see if anyone else has info on Honda's shipments/ i.e what is even going on over there.

The CBR650R wasn't one of the 10 that Honda officially stopped taking orders on, but it's still pretty rare to see one in dealerships. I've not seen a single 2021 or 2022 at any of my local dealers and I check almost weekly. Are you deadset on getting new or is used an option?

I'm absolutely dead set on either the 2022 or 2023. It's definitely an unwavering emotional decision for me.

Woah, not sure why my dad's face is in my PFP. Hi dad!

Sadly you may be waiting a bit to get one. It seems like they were somewhat rare in the US before covid, and that has been compounded by the supply chain issues.

In Europe it is the same. There won't be any available before 2023. And even then you are on the waiting list...

Where did you get this info? All I've heard in the US is "no estimate available" from dealerships and Honda USA frustratingly won't give any information at all. I've had a non-refundable deposit down for months now but frankly I'm considering giving up and going with a different manufacturer.

There are (6) 650R or R650Rs on the showroom floor here. There is one model that is all blacked out, engine, foot pegs, covers on the air intakes. Same model is offered in India. Your biggest challenge is these are manufactured in Thailand, many/most don't get shipped to the US market because of the 94 stock hp and the US market prefers higher hp, like the R600RR at 118, and weighs less so is just more preferred in the US. Yeah, it's more $$ but you pull up to a light on your R650R and next to you is a R600RR. Light turns green and the 600 is gone. He does the quarter in 10.92 sec @131, you? 11.8 @115. Numbers from https://motostatz.com. That puts him at about 169 feet ahead of you at the quarter. 131 mph is 192 ft/sec x .88 sec is 169 ft. which is more than half a football field. That is significant if that is what you are after. Plus it handles better. But ergonomics on the RR are more race, more pitched forward.
And, sorry about mentioning the showroom covered with 650s. I live in Thailand so...................2023-honda-cb-650r-black-1-800x445.jpg

Getting a V2? If I tracked more or lived closer to the twisties I'd trade my Supersport S in for one but for now it’s pretty much the perfect sportbike for me.

EDIT: nevermind, I see in another post you are. Congrats!!!

Glad I didn't try to wait on getting a CBR650R then. Got lucky and found a 2018 CBR650F nearby. I think I wouldn't have wanted the more leaned over riding position of the R, anyway. Plus I saved a couple grand.

An additional data point, fwiw - here in Portugal, I ordered a CBR650R in late September, with ETA of 2 - 4 months. Latest word from the dealer is that he received two last month that went to buyers who had been waiting 10 months. I am now 3rd on the waiting list. He says that he has no word on future deliveries, but he expects them at any moment (!). A little ambiguous, that. But maybe the arrival of the two last month, along with GPSDANNY's expected shipment, means that things are loosening up.
