Lol they are crap they are probs the most stupid aftermarket design ever. Why would you want to risk smashing engine casings up when they are meant to protect important parts not damage them ? From a normal low side crash you will need replace fairings, maybe handle bars foot pegs ect and be back out in a few weeks. but its a whole write off if the engine goes your choice. The impact
Is directly aimed at cast alloy 🤔. Gb racing covers are all you need. Also insurers wont he happy to pay out if they realise the damage could of been prevented if it didnt have the bobbins.

Please do not put much faith, in you retaining control of your bike, if the Insurers have anything to do with it.
Generally as a rule in the UK, they now write them off, regardless of how little damage you think has occurred.
I knew some guys when I was in Virginia Water, who specialise in Insurance Write Off Motorcycles. Their only market is ebay.
A lot of these bikes are bought, fixed up and returned to the Open Market.
Years ago the Insurers wrote off older/valueless/dangerous bikes, nowadays it seems like anything with a scrape.
I have been in their warehouse looking around many times, all are welcome to do so, and it defies belief sometimes why the Insurance Assessors have written off some of the bikes.

I managed to save mine from the insurer with a £1300 bill. Guess it depends on the quality of the company and how much you argue.

They were about to take mine until I asked "will you be reimbursing me for the £2500 worth of extras declared on the policy?". Then they changed their tune pretty quickly!

Not sure I know the exact definition difference, but either way, those doing ambulance work should be applauded IMO. I don't know if it's like that in the UK as well, but here in the Netherlands, stories of ambulance personnel getting harassed while doing their work is an increasingly common occurance unfortunately.
