oxygen

I'm going to drive home (40 km), but the engine light is on because I managed to damage the oxygen sensor. Can I drive home, or is it harmful to the engine? I have installed an aftermarket exhaust system. If the oxygen sensor is not working, does the system run rich to protect internal components?
