Is it really worth spending 1k on an exhaust system?

I'll add my $.02, if I may be so bold!

The way I see it, ANY modification/accessory you purchase can ALWAYS be sold! Besides my old cruiser bikes I've always kept my exhausts stock. That's just me as I've found out a lot of these motorcycles today won't get much more power out of an aftermarket exhausts/re-jetting so they've become more cosmetic, IMO, than anything else. I think an ECU flash is the way to go for more power/torque.
But to the OP's question, you should buy whatever you can afford and want! I look at it this way - from being on these motorcycle sites since 2003 - if you buy aftermarket whatever, and realize you don't like it...put it up on the "For Sale" section. You may lose a couple of $$ but unless it's damaged I'm willing to bet you'll get pretty close to your money back! Someone is always looking for a deal and will pay a little less for a used piece.
If you do decide on a new exhaust take pictures and do videos of the new sound. That way you're A) helping future owners and, B) if you re-sell it the new buyers can get an idea of what it sounds like.

' - the for sale sections on forums are very good but in my recent experience with selling fairly new used parts you are more likely to get back about half what you paid for it if you bought it new.

Still better than not getting anything at all! :)

Welcome to the world of accessories! I've seen many people try to sell their bikes and mark up the price because they have all these mods and accessories on it. It almost never works. I've told sellers to keep the extras and lower the price, which if they do they wind up throwing in the accessories anyway. Even dealers don't care, unless they're OEM accessories. I find most people want to decorate their bikes how they want them, not how the previous owner had them.

Again, I'm not sure you're going to accomplish much other than looks and sound from aftermarket exhausts. That's a pretty steep price for sound and looks, IMO.

$1000+ is a bit much, I agree, but honestly, sound is a major factor in how you experience your bike. After I installed an aftermarket exhaust on my bike, riding it has become even more enjoyable. The bike isn't one bit faster with it, but mentally, it feels like I'm going twice as fast :)

We have a saying here in Yorkshire, "you cut your cloth to suit" in truth some may be happy to keep the standard can and some happy and able to spend a fortune on one, choice is a great thing. Oh and yes I am a tight Yorkshireman so will be keeping the stock can :)

I just watched one of the member's video of his drive-by. I'll admit...that thing sounds bad ass!!!:cool::cool:
And I'll never put someone down for spending money on their motorcycle! If you got the $$$ and can spend it, then I say go for it!

There's a couple of guys on the CTX forum, they're older/retired, but they've actually spent more on modifying their CTX's with add-on's than the total cost of what they paid for their bikes brand new!!! And then they NEVER ride them!!! (Good guys but I just shake my head at the amount of money they've spent for a motorcycle they never ride!)

And don't get me started on the Harley guys!!! :p

Not complaining , just saying don't expect to get back nearly what you paid. It is far better to remove aftermarket parts and replace original parts when part exchanging because dealers prefer original bikes and don't offer much for accessories anyway. Plus when selling parts the people you meet are fellow enthusiasts who will make good use of them on their bike.

revzilla has the Akrapovic (S-H6R11-AFT) for $930, and amazon has it for $900. Rezvilla will price match it for you and you'll get the rezvilla cash to use.

Honestly it was the best money ive spent on my bike. The sound, quality and performance is amazing! I would recommend it to anyone. I took the baffle out of mine. (had to pound it out from the back). This exhuast screams at high RPMs but is mild enough at the low rpm to enjoy a nice cruise.
Did u tweak the ecu or put PCV?
