Hello,
I bought my bike used and found out it has a Dimsport Rapid bike piggy back ECU.

Can someone explain why are these needed? Bike has BMC air filter and Akra exhaust system without DB killer

Thank You!

Because of this:

Doesn't NEED a piggyback fuel controller but it doesn’t hurt.
Highly disagree
Once you are modding the original engine setup (intake/exhaust), you have to modify the AFR \ IGMITION TIMING

This is what the rapid is for

Respectfully, I disagree, it depends on your exhaust. Akra, for instance, specifically says you do not NEED one but one is recommended.

Put 5K miles on my CBR650F before selling it without a fuel controller and with the Akra exhaust. Bike ran great, not perfect but not bad enough to warrant a fuel controller.

I fully understand what’s it’s for, what it does and how it works, you just don’t NEED it for every pipe on every bike.

The stock ecu can correct for quite a bit of change (exhaust for example).

If you do "everything" then yes, you can push the engine outside of that and a fuel controller is needed.

I ran my TBR pipe for a year or two before fitting the power commander. No issues.

My CBR650R has the Akra full exhaust system without an ECU remap. It has been running fine for over 5000km now.
I have done some research online, and most people report that an ECU remap would yield an insignificant gain in horsepower.

With Euro 5 or 5+ O2 sensors, the standard map will give you almost everything available.
I’ve read some horror stories following new maps on these ECUs, so I would stay stock.
It’s not like the old carburettor days where re-jetting was essential.
