Coolant Change

Changed the coolant today. Flushed it out with distilled water first. Manual says it takes 2.5 litres. It was up to the neck of the radiator and the expansion tank level looks fine but I would reckon it took LESS than 2 litres judging by whats left in the 5 litre bottle. Anyone else found this..... or have I botched it?

Thanks peeps

2.5L is correct, apart from assuming you drained all the old coolant out, have you also bled the system for air?

Coolant replacement is every 3 years you would have been fine for another 6 months at least judging by your model year.

Expansion tank, if it's dirty, I would remove it, fill with bleach and rice, cover all the holes and shake it like I'm dancing for 5 minutes.

However, I think you need to remove the exhaust to get access to it :(

Thanks to you all. No bleeding screw on CB ,unlike CBR , but I did bleed the air out by revving a bit as recommended. Emptied the expansion tank with a ginormous syringe and a length of plastic tube. I also got a fair amount out of the radiator using the tube after I had supposedly "drained" it. Daniel you are spot on about 3 year coolant change according to manual. Most online advice is 2 years so I assumed that. Too much like hard work taking the exhaust off to get to the expansion tank I reckon bishop.

I'll take it for a run tonight and check the radiator level again after it has cooled. If it is still up to the neck maybe some coolant remains like Brammers reckons.

Again thanks to all for replying.

Took it for a long run in this equatorial heat and no warning light. The radiator level is still at the top. No way 2.5 litres went in but all seems fine anyway.

Just an after thought, did you buy the OEM coolant.

Exactly what I was wondering, Ill be stripping the bike down to the tank in the next week or 2 and will be replacing the coolant too since it's been in 3 and a half years now. Pro Honda HP Coolant is listed in the service manual but that's difficult to find judging by my brief search online.

Signs if coolant is bad or not flushed right.

You'll know if the coolant needs replacing if your over heat light turns on, coolant starts barfing from the over flow tank, or hear bubbling noise if you ride hard and then turn off the bike.

To be honest I can't find the site I got it off again. But see attached. Calling it anti freeze brings this up but calling it coolant doesn't.
