TLDR; Anyone know where a "Red Positive (Key On)" area would be for my heated grips?

So l recently decided that domino racing grips was not how l wanted to keep riding so l decided to pickup some heated grips for my 650R. Now being smart l checked the price of the OEM ones and found them to be ridiculously high and also only available in the UK. So l went for the next option which is aftermarket and found that the Oxford ones being great and all do look awfully ugly. Therefore to save myself some dignity and also have something that looks the the OEM kit l picked ups the Whites heated grips (which in America happens to be called the Koso Apollo apparently).

Now l have installed them and l will attach a video of the process in dremeling down the throttle tube in order to slide them over which is necessary unless you just plan on buying a nicer throttle tube like a G2 quick turn or Domino throttle kit. Sadly l didn't get any photos of how l decided to route the cables and controller under the tank but l might do that tday when l get free just to help anyone thinking of this plan.

But l had a question, does anyone know where the circuit for the Red Positive (Key-On) would be. Cause currently l have them setup on the battery like most people would aftermarket heated grips but this instruction states l should probably link it to the key which l guess would be preferred by me even though it has a safety cut off. Any advice would be amazing and feel free to ask any questions!

Yeah see l was going to use the brake light since it is an always running item with the key on. However l was afraid it would cause too much heat for the rear tail area and didn't want to risk tapping it. But since you seem to have had no issues or burning down maybe l will use that as my point of power. Thanks!

Never had any issues
If you feel more comfortable, you can use the dedicated heated grips plug under the tank, left side next to the airbox

Yeah but that would require ruining that molex plug l'm guessing. Would really rather not to that if l could

you can still tap those cables without using the sumitomo connection
one is ground and one is live, just use a multimeter
this is what I'm gonna do once I put the heated grips back in for the winter

Thanks for stepping in with the link
Tried to look for it but couldn’t find it
That adapter makes it a lot easier

My pleasure. It's my bike in his eBay pictures as I took a punt with the connector and John (the eBay seller) said he would help me source the right plug if the one I bought from him didn't work out. Turns out it was spot on so I sent him the install pictures to help his store. Always good to support the independent sellers.

He makes up all sorts of cables and connections. He made me a double socket version (2 into 1) so that if I ever wanted to plug something else into the accessory port like a USB charger then I have it ready to go. He sells it on his store.

Oh wow that’s great, i’m glad you help out independent sellers it’s always important to support the little guys. Down here we have a company in the state of Tasmania that is called Mustard bikes. They make fender eliminators for tons of bikes and specifically the 650 range. Right now with all l’ve seen they have the tightest and cleanest setup for the rear fender going on and it’s just a family business. So l try help them out with promotional work and just tips and advice whenever l can so l fully support that kinda world. I’ll pickup one of the connectors and even the splitter just to help him out! Thanks for linking it man.
