Hi, i'm a new biker which i'm looking to get the cbr650r as an upgrade to my cb125 (ik lol i have yet to own a 650 sry). I'm wondering if it's worth waiting for the 2024 model now that we now that it's coming (as well as the looks and specifics).

I hope that the price doesn't vary, and if it does, by a small amount (thoughts?).
I decided to get this bike because i love the looks of it and the versatility of the 4 in-line but i'm considering waiting to get the 2024 (do we now when it will be purchasable in Europe?).

I'm questioning it, I know that they have changed:
- fornt end (looks)
- tail (much more sporty and better looking for me)
- small changes in the body
- eventually the e-clutch (as a new rider it might be useful while cornering or in emergency situation where having a firm grip is key)
- new dash/display with the app connectivity (a big plus for me)
- what else?

thoughts, what to you think of the new version, what would you do if you were me?
oh and also:
- red
- black
which one?

also sorry for my english guys lol

Bennett’s BikeSocial has a technical review of the new Honda models, published today. The CBR models get a restyle to look more like the Fireblade. It has exactly the same running gear as the 2023 but a better more modern instrument cluster. There will be two options: the first to be released early next year will be the standard model, followed 2 months later by the e-clutch (e-by gum for those from Yorkshire). The basic one weighs 1 kilo more than the 2023 and the e-clutch model adds another 2kg to that. No changes at all have been made to the engine, which stays at a nominal 93.7 bhp to allow the engine to be restricted to meet the 47bhp maximum for A2 licence holders (UK). The same options apply to the CB650R. The standard bikes get a cost increase of £100 over the equivalent 2023 bike. No details yet of e-clutch option, which has a wider rhs engine cover to accommodate the two electric actuator motors. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that this can be retro-fitted to a standard one, though I’d hazard a guess that it will only fit 2024 models because I’d imagine that it needs that year’s ECU, wiring and sockets. We’ll see.
FWIW I won’t be trading in my 2023 CBR650R. It already has a light slipper assist clutch and optional quickshifter. I can’t see the point in shaving another millisecond or two off the gearchange time on the road. For the track I’d buy something quicker anyway.
Good to see that they’re keeping the models going though.

Wow some nice updates. I'm the same as the above re not bothering updating. But I do like the visual ques taken from the fireblade. If I had those stickers on my 21' I probably would not have removed them. Not sure about the rear end. The light looks... strange.

And the only proper rear end shot we have they removed the fender? Hmmm

I'd love to try this e shifter I wonder does it make it sportier or will it feel like a scooter

Also no pillion handles?

Is the new bike cable or electronic throttle?
Well if it's a e clutch or what ever they call it I'm assuming it's not going to be a cale throttle anymore. They are gonna need to have sensors and electrical macguffins for the e clutch to know what the throttle position is etc

the pictures on the Honda site you can see clearly cables, you can see a cable on the e-clutch and on the clutch lever, you also see two cables on the throttle body Actually it makes sense because you still can override the e-clutch by using the clutch. The new model doesn’t have ride modes such as rain, street etc. So no RBW needed.

I understand it operates from a sensor in the gearchange mechanism and one on the clutch. No need at all for rbw, which is needed for engine modes, cruise control etc. A quickshifter works with cable throttle and so does DCT. NC models have had DCT for years without rbw, which was introduced on those models a while ago but not because of the DCT. E-clutch is basically like a Rekluse clutch.

As far as cables go, Yamaha has used a throttle cable system on some RBW models like my Tracer GT so it still has the “normal” feel that activates a potentiometer elsewhere. I’m not saying that’s what it is, but that RBW is still a possibility.

Then again Honda still uses uses coils and spark plug caps on this model, so……….

I note also that the e-clutch sensitivity can be set to three positions, adjusting the amount of foot pressure is needed to cause a gearchange. A good idea.

Well Honda fullfiled my wishes.
Got the TFT and a better looking tail.
Won't care much for the e-clutch altought i'll like to try it.

Just waiting to see the price on this one and of the 600rr to pull the trigger.

is it me or does the front of the 600rr look like the cbr500r? especially with those awful indicators. I love the tail exhaust though!

There are two things that are horrible on the 600rr, the indicators and the back seat, which looks something of the 90s.

from what I've read there realy does appear little change worth buying the new model. I know a posh new dash looks great but on the rad I'm looking where I'm going. I've had my CBR650R about 18 months and only just noticed the gear change light!
The quickshifter is uneccesary, but great fun!

There’s a gearchange light? Fancy that! I won’t be rushing to change my 2023 CBR650R. I agree about the dash; I just look for the big speedo digits….. I don’t often use the quickshifter- the gearbox is so good it isn’t really needed Although it’s fun when in the mood. Whatever, I won’t be getting another CBR anyway. I’ll have scratched the itch with this one and will move on to something different next time, almost certainly with fewer cylinders and a lot less plastic.
