That makes way more sense than all the guys who have told me to remove them because the feelers are limiting my lean angles. And when looking at the bent one and the resulting scrapes along on my lower fairing, I just don't buy into the idea that removing them provides any meaningful gain. I think Honda made them just long enough to do their job and didn't leave any significant extra lean angle on the table with their design, which is what I was trying to show in the pics.
Damn! What kind of angle to scrap like that? What you need is a 2nd bike. I hear tracking is an expensive 'hobby' (jealous here).

Not as much angle as you might think. Unfortunately, I don't have any good pics of me really leaning on the right side, but in this pic you can see that with only about 45 degrees of lean the part of the lower fairing that I've scraped is only just off the ground (circled):

Right Side Lean.jpg

So I'd guess there's only about 5 degrees or so more to go before it's dragging. I know race replicas like the R6 and 600RR have got more clearance than that.

Nah, track days are only $100 with our local association, so it's cheap! OK, leather rentals and trailer rental add some cost on top of that, but it's really not that expensive to do track days. And the learning experience and fun is worth way more than the cost. Even if I had a dedicated track bike, I'd still want to track my 650R occasionally because there's a real bonding experience that comes from flogging your daily around the track, whether that's a car or a bike.

Yeah, when I mean expensive, the 'maintenance' far out costs track entrance. Had a bud that used to track his 1098 (daily rider). Not cheap to replace skins.

Hi what tyre pressure you are running? Could it be too low?
Just to share my thoughts, once I sat on my friend's CBR650R, I felt the stock front is a bit too soft for my track day preference.. :)

I run them slightly higher than Bridgestone's recommended track day pressures for their RS10 tire, and have been pleased with 31 front and 29 rear. Wear has been very even with no tears at these pressures, and consistent performance through the entire session.

I rode my motorcycle on Sunday morning from Palmdale to San Diego via Angeles Forest Highway, Upper Big Tujunga Canyon Road, Angeles Crest Highway, and I-15. I seem to have managed to get the road mostly to myself east of Newcomb's Ranch, which was nice. It was the first time I've ridden Angeles Crest Highway since the Bobcat Fire and was pleased to see the damage was light from Islip Saddle to near Dawson Saddle. It was also nice to see CHP ready for the idiots that were amassing at Newcomb's.

Yeah... that's a big nope from me. Never a fan of groups of motorcycles. Way too much stupid for my taste. Not that much fun when you're having to dodge people passing over double lines in blind turns doing wheelies.

What is fun is being far from them and having the road mostly to yourself, like Angeles Crest Highway was. Hopefully my timing will be just as good on Highway 38 next Thursday morning if the weather is good. Going to ride that alpine slide in Big Bear and get some beef jerky in Mentone.

sdmichael @sdmichael it was a breakfast burrito run. Mulholland is closed 100 yards past TRS all the way to Kanan Dume, so it isn’t the usual crowd there right now. Everyone was pretty much there to BS about bikes, drink coffee and eat.

me and my compadres did run Yerba Buena to Neptune’s Net (which is still closed)

I finally got a leather suit of my own. A closeout on A-Stars Motegi two-piece. Naturally, I had to go out and break it in. Went for a ride through a canyon road nearby that I frequent often; it has very little traffic and nice curves. Unfortunately, the road is next to a creek and the bugs are terrible there right now. Here in Colorado, we usually have very few insects in the air. You can sit outside at night without getting eaten alive, and I have to clean bugs off my visor maybe twice throughout a summer of riding. However, the bugs are apparently out in force right now down by the creek. I got the virgin knee pucks all scraped up like I wanted, but I had to call it quits and go home after just a few runs because I could barely see through my visor. I've never had so many bugs on my visor, ever. It was nuts. And when I got home, I realized my new suit is now bug-gut brown. It looked like I went through a mud pit I had so many gnat splats on my brand new leathers. And the front of my poor bike, holy crap. So I spent this evening cleaning it all up.

Haven’t posted in awhile, changed some more stuff awhile back, full handlebar setup upgrade, new exhaust with custom PAIRs delete, and more goodies and still more stuff to install.

Going for the full bronze accent theme. Got these two today to match the engine casing/forks/exhaust/rims. Hopefully these bronze shades match!

Bought my CBR a sibling. 09' R1, clean, low mileage. Don't think I'll ever be able to fling it around corners like the CBR, no comparison...and my back is killing me.

Rode up to Big Bear on Thursday via State 38 (up and back). Rode the Mineshaft Coaster. Had fun. Road was fairly quiet both directions.
