I'm gonna do it...they 4got 2 order whatever they needed 2 do 'valve check' yesterday, guy was very apologetic (usual dealer/mechanic), but said mechanic listened 2 it, sounded ok, & recommended getting done after next few oil changes...I'll probably do it next service or b4.
Valve checks are the most complicated of the preventative maintenance procedures, but it is doable at home if you have tools, secure space, patience, and time.
Here's a video that shows exactly what's involved:
Valve clearance maintenance (checks/adjusts) come with the territory, part of ownership, strongly suggested to do at printed factory maintenance interval guidelines. Don't "blow it off". But in the end...your bike to do as you please.
Not sure about the cb650r , but owning 2 other recent hondas (2010vfr 1200 and 2014 valkyrie) i checked clearance on both bikes at about 25 k miles and both were in spec. Talked to a honda mechanic that told me he rarely sees honda valve clearance out of spec. And yes, its fairly easy to check, so best to at least do the check before a visit to honda .
