Hi all

Just after a little bit of advice/opinions on this. I have come across a used shock on eBay at a fairly reasonable price assuming the seller is good to their offer but wondered whether this was a good idea? Should I just bite the bullet and get a new shock rather than trying to save a couple of hundred quid?

Thanks

No reason not to go used. I would caution you on a couple things, however, to determine if it's a good deal:

1. Find out the last time it's been serviced. Ohlins needs regular refreshing to work correctly. It's a hundred dollars or so to get done if it's off the bike.
2. Find out what weight the spring is for. IF you are say 150lbs, and the rider of the used shock was 250lbs, the spring will be WAY too hard for you.

If both of those things work for you, I'd not hesitate to buy a used one.

Thanks - I’ll ask the questions and see what I can find out. I didn’t realise the spring was an option to be changed to your weight when buying new.

If the Rear Suspension has low mileage, a definitely yes. Just weight in the service cost as your consideration too.
As per Ohlins Rear Shock service internal is 30,000 km (HO 110027). 20,000 km is recommended if regular track days. In my country Malaysia, the service cost is about 30% of a new shock.

Spring code on the shock is 01092-74/180 L1214
I am about 15st with riding gear on and don't ride with a pillion ever.
Can anyone help tell me if this might be the right spring for me?

I would email Ohlins to be sure but I think you’re in the ballpark. I looked back and mine was ordered with 01092-79 which was for me at 250lbs plus a rate one higher that “normal“ because I used that bike two up a lot. So converting 15 stone to pounds shows like 210lbs which makes me think you’re close at a 74, but ask a race shop or Ohlins directly to be sure.

Unlike most companies they are happy to help people with used products and give great customer support for them.

Good luck!!!

Contacted my closest Ohlins dealer in the UK - fingers crossed I get the same as above and then I’ll take the plunge!
