No idea of the local laws/licencing restrictions where you are, so its tough to say. I think you only get restricted bikes there? So if you do de-restrict it and can do so legally you will see a big difference, just about doubling the power i believe. However if your licence does not allow this legally, i would strongly suggest leaving it as is, you may think Insurance wont find out, but i would not take that risk myself.

I’m in Australia mate I understand all the legal stuff I was hoping somone would be in the same boat wether to keep the 650 stock or save a bit and get a bigger bike for the extra power

Do you have any other riding experience? The 650 unrestricted is plenty fast and fun for most, at least for a couple years. I had an R6 before and my 650r I find quenches the speed thirst pretty well if you really send it. Had it almost 3 years now, but I am starting to get that itch. But if I scratch it, I would still like to keep the 650 around. I’ve grown attached to it.

This bike in restricted form doesn't make much sense at all. It's a rev happy 4 cylinder that wants to be wound out, yet the restrictions lop the top end off. It's designed as a 90hp bike so if you like the look and feel of it and you think you might hang onto it a couple of years then I'd go ahead with the derestriction. As you'd know, technically no longer LAMS approved in Australia, but everyone gets away with it. Once derestricted it's plenty fast enough to have a lot of fun with considering our dismally low speed limits.
