So. My CB650R project is at a point where the bike doesn't need much more than regular maintenance and upkeep. So, I decided to start a new project. I've been looking for a MC22 for a while now, and happened to stumble on a promising deal from Netherlands. It took around 3 weeks to talk with the salesman and honing the deal. The plan is to restore it as best I can for now, and get it registered this summer.

Starting the bike after fuel-system flush:

I bought the bike site unseen, only seeing one video of it roughly running. The bike arrived couple days ago, and I've managed to start it and run with all four pots. Shoutout to the company that sold me the bike, good customer experience overall and would and will recommend them if anyone is looking for a project: https://fourstrokebarn.com/en/

First of the project vids utube:

Next on the project is to take the carb's apart and give them a good clean while tidying the rest of the bits. Probably going to get the rims painted white. Looking for possibilities for new fairings and do other kind of maintenance and checking. Suspension is on the softer side due age, but working. Brakes are working but, the brake lines needs to be replaces, as the fluids.

Plan after the summer is still a bit open. I would like to paint the chassis gun-metal grey but, I'm not fully sold on the idea. Going to brew the idea during the next winter.

I'll keep updating this thread as I go.

Cheers!

While waiting for the carb gasket kit, taking the bike further apart. Once the carb's are done and tested, I'll probably take the bike even more apart to able to clean and check everything. Gasket kit should arrive next week the latest, after that I have to try some citric acid / vinegar to the aluminium parts.. There are some black spots that needs treatment.

Nice little screamer 👍

I like that white paint. It reminds me of the CBR900RR Fireblade 🙄

Chassis somewhat cleaned. While taking the rear shock off, I noticed a crack on the suspension link. Seems I have to find a aluminium machinist next.

Haha, one way to spend it yes. Thou' it seems this is going to be around the year project. - Yeah it's been a busy week already, just trying to get the project to the point where I start to have a full picture what I need to do, replace, fix, etc..

Like the silly rear suspension swing/link rod for example. It wasn't cracked on one spot only, it was cracked on three spots.. Crikey!

I did some CAD sketching today, just need to re-check the dimensions etc. and put a order for a CNC machined one from PCBWay or so.
Also put the order for new set of needle bearings for the arm, would be a shame to use the old ones.

Awesome!!! 😯
You're not only skilled to completely disassemble the bike, but also skilled with CAD software to make the parts you need! 👏

What's your next step? FinCB650R's Motorcycles, Ltd? 😄

Don't know about skill but.., Sure it's easy to take things apart.. totally another beast to put them back together...😅 And if you can't buy the part you need, you can ask someone to make it for you or make it yourself.. I've noticed the latter comes less expensive and it's nice way to waste your life haha.

A Ltd? - Why ruin a pleasant hobby making it a job. I already hit face against the keyboard at work so, this tinkering is good balance. 🫡

---

CAD tinkering done. Measurements double checked and also added "FinCB650R's Motorcycles, Ltd" -logo to the part.

This would be every bearing for the frame. Fork, front and rear axle, Swing and suspension swing-arm. Now just waiting to get the swing-arm machined and delivered.

In the meanwhile, I need to clean, ultra-sound wash and rebuild the carbs.. Hnngh.

Nice. 🙂
I think I would add black brake/clutch levers and maybe a carbon exhaust. That shiny metal on the end of the black pipe... don't know... 🙄

Not sure what todo with the brake/clutch levers yet.. Brake lever needs some TLC or swap but for colors, haven't had the thought yet.

I think I need to swap the silencer anyway, this OEM one is full of black soot and there's no way to clean it really. TYGA one looks promising:

Take a look at this website . They have levers with many colours/features and you can even configure the levers with different colours combinations.
At least it might give you some ideas ;)

Not sure about the quality of that brand... but it looks good and might be a good match for the baby blade. It even has the logo in white/red/blue! 😄
