New chain riveted

Hi all, riveted my chain tonight for first time, simple enough and I used Vernier calipers aswell to get the links to same size (as accurate as I could). Happy with outcome but just expected a different outcome for the rivet heads for the link I adjusted...what's your thoughts? (See pics). No kinks or bends, rollers are moving, everything greased. I think I'm just overthinking it, please someone put my mind to ease as mot this week then it's road bound.
Cheers, Aidan

So two things... First up the chain is hard riveted with soft rivets on the joining link.

Second those soft rivets look a little too far done. Did you measures the width of the rivet head and check against the chain spec?

So I measured the link width on a few links and took an average for the joining link. The chain spec said to flare the rivet out half mm. I just turned half a turn took it off, checked and repeated. I was just expecting it to flare out a little bit didn't really. The rollers inside the joining link turn no worries, and the chain join link seems solid so I think it should be fine?

I am pretty sure they are overdone on yours, i would get a new link and re-do it if i were you, but as i frequently state, i am no expert.
if your chain is a DID chain use the attached guide, or look up the correct one for you chain.

Cheers mate, appreciate the input. I was a bit suspect lastnight when fitting but the chain rollers are smooth and turning and the whole chain looks exactly the same as the link. It's just the rivets I didn't think looked right. I'll take it to the MOT station that way I'll have a ride and see their opinion. Wheel turns no bother and the rivets won't come off, like I say all the links are spinning freely. I'll bare this in mind for next time tho as never done a rivet chain, always been the sir clip ones

I did at the time know I was cranking them. Checked every half turn but I just had a different image in my head that they would be flared different. Live and learn. Keep my eye on it tho definitely!
It's a handy forum this, tonne of info so far from it so much appreciated Gents

Well done for tackling the job. It's one of those I'd rather let the local independent, ex Honda mechanic do. It costs a fair bit to get a decent chain riveter etc kit. At my time of life it's not worth the investment for me, but it's good to see someone having a bash.

I will take any excuse to buy tools, so i went ahead an got the OXFORD CHAIN TOOL and found it to be very good. could use a longer handle, but otherwise i found it really good. It is an investment i think and i always prefer to do the work myself if i possibly can.
I will say i think i spent longer researching the Job than i did actually carrying out the work, but that is just my way.

I used to do that but really in my eighth decade now I can't justify it. Anybody want the proper Triumph 865 twin valve adjusting tool?😀 No? OK just carry on with your nail then....Perhaps you'd like the unofficial Merikan diagnostic tool that enables the owner to reset the service indicator (little orange spanner) on the current range of Moto Guzzi. Dealers won't di it for you unless they service the bike. Took nearly two years to crack, but they did. No? Oh well. See what I mean.....😀

I went with a higher end tool than can also handle the square style hard rivet links. £80 at the time and I doubt I'll need to buy another tool ever.

Having done two chains with it... It's paid for itself now.

Fair play for having the stones to give it a go!
