It's retro and modern at the same time. While I do like the look of it, I'm surprised they went this route with the CB1000 and not the CB1100, which has always had more of a classic cafe racer look.

I like it, looks like what is selling now (see Ducati Scrambler, Yamaha XCR950, Triumph Bobber/Scramber, etc.).

The CB1100 is retro, this is sort of in-between. Thumbs up from this guy!!!

I really had a fight in my head. Because I purchased the "old" CB1000R right before Eicma.
I knew something new was coming but saw that "neo sports cafe" teaser. Couldn´t imagine that Honda really brings out another retro bike after the CB1100 and really hoped otherwise until the reveal.
But no, they really did that.
While I think it doesn´t look bad for what it is I think it´s just a missed opportunity.
I knew that they wouldn´t bring out a 180hp S1000R/MT10/Tuono slayer but at least I wished Honda would release something modern, sporty, agressive but still a little less powerful with around 140/150hp.
I mean it has the nice power figure and has up to date electronics and it even lost a fair amount of weight. It could be a potential power nakedbike candidate. (Z1000 has 2hp less and more weight)

But damn, it had to end up as just another sip of water in the current river of retro bikes. :shifty:

But nevertheless it has a huge positive aspect! I am really glad I already chose the "old" CB.

I actually thought of you, Thomas, when I saw it. Not surprised you're not getting too excited over the retro look though

Funny you guys keep saying it's too retro. I see a little retro, I mean very little, like in the tank badges and maybe in the tail section, but way more of the modern.

The exhaust, headlight, forks, motor, wheels, fenders, rearsets, are all VERY updated to me; the CB1100, however, is retro........

Although if I bought the old model recently, I wouldn't be too bummed but if I wanted a new naked liter, this would be a high choice on my list.

They did that muscle bike thing a couple years ago, which was more retro. then honda gave us the CB650 variants at last years EICMA.
This year we get the CB1000, which is more like a CB650F than retro and, the CB4 concept turns to CBR600 "Cafe".

My two penneth, it isn't at all retro, well it is if you call the original V Max retro, cos it certainly has a hint of that. It is kind of a half way house between the hyper nakeds and the real modern retro bikes like the BMW R9T and the Z900.

I'll reserve judgement, need to see it in the flesh and see how it fits me...not that i'm thinking of changing.
My son commented on a model motorcycle we have at home and kept on the hall table, the wife said..that's the bike your father has kept the longest:inpain::stinkyfeet:

Not old, not new, not retro, not modern....
So people actually looking for a retro bike won´t buy it because it´s "new".
And people actually looking for a modern bike won´t buy it because it looks "retro".
It´s just another of those "in between" bikes.
And in my opinion a completely round headlight just makes the bike look strange and "old" no matter how new it actually is.
They should have made it like Kawasaki: Just make a new modern bike (Z900) and in addition to that bring out another version of it (Z900RS).
Get rid of that chopper plate and that huge exhaust.
Replace the front mask with something that is new AND looks up to date. Give one 140hp and the other one 150. Give one a litttle bit modified suspension. There you have it.
Yes, I know, that causes development costs but I really think many people would be happy about a "real" CB1000R succesor.
The CB650F is currently the biggest "modern" Honda naked bike you can buy. Huge market left open - only my opinion of course.

Just going to leave this here. That is what bothers me so much.
Not that some retro models appear on the market. But the fact that some of them replace something.

2016: The CB1000R is on the market for 8 years now. It´s about time we get something more up to date....

2026?: (Of course it would have a huge Euro 153451 exhaust and a golden USD fork. Oh and yeah, the plate holder would be way bigger and made of plastic.)

I like the look of the CB1000R apart from the monster exhaust but no doubt that's a Euro 4/Euro 28/Euro 79 compliant compromise. Looks are subjective i know but to me the bike looks modern. Poor old Honda - it's very difficult for them to come up with a headlight shape that pleases most bikers but they are market savvy and aware of retro trends.
I'd love to jump on it for a ride just to see how it feels, sounds and handles.

it's hard to get a hold of good images that are not CGI.
It looks like the extra work needed for the litre bike exhausts to comply with EURO4, the final stage of the system appears to be slip on able.
The GSXR has the same feature.

So we will get to see the same old slip on cans that we have seen for the last couple of decades. which should add to the retro feel.
