Hello everyone. I'm here looking for advice for the future. I am a fairly new pilot and I had my first crash a few weeks ago, October 28, 2023. I'm uploading photos to show what happened and most of the questions are going to be about motorcycle protection to try to protect it more in case it happens again. For now I have fixed the brake lever and brake pedal. But I also have to change the engine cover, which leaks some oil and seems to be the most expensive thing to fix. In the last image you can see how much oil it loses after cleaning and riding for 20-30 minutes.

I'm looking for ways to better protect the engine as I'm still interested in improving my driving skills and probably want to do gymkhana and improve maneuvering. In my research I have seen that 1 anchor point sliders are not recommended at all. Then I have found the following options.

Puig Pro 2.0

Sw-Motech Crash Bars

Hepco&Becker Crash Bars

I'm also interested in putting this up.

My favorite options is Hepco&Beckers as it is 3 points but I don't know if it is compatible with quickshifter.
Does anyone have experience with any of these pieces or do you have more suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Hello. Sorry to know you crashed. Hope you are fine and unharm.

I see you are concerned about protecting your investment, what about your integrity? Are you considering doing something? ;-)
You will have the engine cover replaced by less that all these horrible protections cost. After that, your bike will look like new again.
In the event of a crash, you will find you also have to renew these bars, and they will also cost you allot of money.
I wouldn’t waste my money on those horrible accessories. It´s unlikely you will be crashing that frequently, that justify this drastic measures.
Invest on good gear to you. Keep your bike stock and beautiful. If you are unlucky, hope that you are OK, and the scratched parts, you can replace.

I am not a fan of these drastic measures, unless we are talking about an adventure bike, to ride off-road, where ist´s likely to drop the bike.
Do we have protections on our car doors? Guess not, despite a simple painting job will cost more than these. Think about it...

Each to their own really. A simple slide could mean the difference in writing off your bike and being stranded or picking it up and riding it back carefully. That scrape on your engine case could have left a nasty hole and it looks like your slider saved it from worse damadge?

Have a look at engine case covers, gb racing or R&G and if you insist on using sliders look at ones that mount in more than one place. Those bars are good but overkill unless it's a school bike or something or you plan on taking it on gravel roads. I use evotech sliders and gb racing covers.

But those solutions are nearly as expensive as replacing bike parts. Less of a headache though as it's a sacrificial part, hopefully replacing the engine cover fixes those oil leaks you have... good luck

I'm fine, a couple of scratches, nothing serious. The damage has been more mental than physical. Thinking about the fall and worrying about my CB650R.

As I said before, my goal is to go to a parking place and learn to maneuver the bike. I give you a reference video of what I would like to achieve. Also in minute 2:30 you can see how a participant slips and I imagine that this will happen to me often, which is why I am interested in protecting my motorcycle more. That's why I think the bars would be the best option but I don't know which of the two is better, Sw-Motech or Hepco&Becker.

Surely those sliders helped prevent further damage. Although I wouldn't recommend them. They are from the Barracuda brand. At the time I saw the Evotech Perfomance ones but my supplier gave me the Barracuda ones and they seem quite small. That's why I don't recommend them.

The sliders on the images, threaded to the engine block, tend to exert a tremendous force on both frame and block and there are reports of people that ended with a broken engine block.

That´s why I say, engine covers can be easily replaced and the bike is back to stock. Can you imagine how to solve a broken block on the mouning point?! It´s probably a total engine loss.
