CBR650R Horizontal throttle play

I had a trawl of the forum but cant find mention of side to side throttle play and I'm not talking about normal adjustable throttle cable play. My new CBR has a noticeable amount of side to side action in the throttle grip which is super off putting sometimes when riding. I've checked out other bikes (z900, z400, mt07) and there's a little movement as expected but not the 5ish mm i'm getting. Is this a known issue or has anyone else noticed this/have a fix?

I’ve noticed the last few bikes I’ve bought, especially my non-Japanese built Hondas (NC700X, CBR650F, Monkey, Grom, Navi), have a ton of side to side play in the throttle. There’s not much you can do about it because it’s the fit of the housing and the throttle sleeve working together so unless you find a way to “shim” that play out, you’re kind of screwed.

So I’d say there’s nothing wrong or off and suggest just getting used to it. It doesn’t affect anything so it’s kind of just an annoyance.

Yeah fair enough, I read somewhere of somebody using e clips to shim in play on a dirt bike so maybe I'll look into that. Its not a safety concern, its just kinda annoying :/
Cheers guys

Not got any significant play on my CBR650R 2021 but with 4,700 miles on it!

I have a little side-to-side knocking on my CB650R '21's twist grip.
It was kinda always like that, and I actually compared to a brand new '22 in the dealership the other week - feels about the same.

So I think it's just a stock manufacturing thing, and not an issue. :)

I also don't think you could possibly fix it, seems like play in the actual twist grip assembly bolted to the handlebar.

Intrigued as I had never noticed it I took a look at Ming and yep it’s exactly the same.

I had Horizontal play on my 21' CBR.

It got worse when I installed the OEM heated grips. I just get on with it seems to be factory. I try not to grip the handle bars so much that I notice.
