All 650Fs Frame sliders may have just written off my bike, need advice and input.

Unfortunately lowsided my cbr650f yesterday. Barely had the bike long. The crash was minor but unfortunately it seems my frame sliders did more harm than good. They seem to have sheared not only my engine hangs (which can be replaced) but they have also snapped the part of the crankcase where the engine hang screws into. Looking to see if it could be welded or would I need to do a full engine swap if I wanted that fixed. Apart from that the bike took almost no damage.

This is EXACTLY why we’ve been telling people not to get frame sliders that attach at that point on the motor. It’s super fragile in that direction and easily snaps off the mounts.

If you know a welder that’s good, it probably can be welded. Every other bike we've seen has been written off or had a motor swap done.

Sorry to hear and see. Like I said, over the 10 years this model has been around this is extremely common to see.

You are very lucky as the block itself has not been cracked.

A good welder might be able to reconstruct the mount point. But it's doubtful.

Find a new engine or claim oo insurance and take the cheque.

Sorry for your loss.

Yes, often the frame slider can do more harm than good. But in this case, I’m pretty sure you have mounted the frame slider in the wrong place. I know it doesn’t help now, but for next time, or for anyone else reading, the single point mount should be mounted as shown in the picture. The best option is to get the double point mount

To correct you, the single point mount should never be done on the 650.

Multi-point mount or nothing at all.

Well, a correctly installed single-point mount saved my bike and many others, so I don’t 100% agree with you. However, a double-point mount is definitely better.

The frame is beefier at the point you are talking about but it’s still extremely risky because the engine casing is not overly thick there and it’s susceptible to fail. A parking lot, driveway, gas station or gentle low speed tip over should be ok but a wreck with any force can stress that point enough to crack your engine case.

As many cases of ”it’s fine” we’ve had, just as many, or more, have been “it’s broken”.

To be clear he didn’t “mount them in the wrong place”, he bought the style that mount in that failure prone spot, probably off Amazon, Aliexpress or some other low cost product site.

Theres a reason we are so adamant against the single point sliders. On this bike, engine case guards/covers are a better buy if you want protection.

I have decided that, on balance, I should remove the R&G mushrooms fitted to my 2023 CBR650R. Although these are made by a reputable company and apparently have a sacrificial fixing bolt that bends to reduce shock impact to the bike I think on balance a fairing panel is easier to sort than a broken mount or engine. Am I right in assuming the issue is the same on the later CBR650R as on the F model?

Like Brammers @Brammers said, yes. You can see for yourself at both areas, it’s a cast part of the engine casing that forms a “tab” with nothing behind it. If a great enough force is applied to it, it will crack.
