May finally take Angeles Crest Highway on my Honda on Friday. Ridden it many times before but not on this one. Should be fun, though with a 300 mile day, tiring!

Yay. Staying at a friends in Eagle Rock Thursday night, so the ride will be a whole lot easier. Now "just" a 120 mile and 200 mile ride.

20200724_080312_HDR.jpg A bit of "posing" before I headed up. Finally got some pics with my bike and new gear.

Up the mountain, looking toward Dawson Saddle from the east. Didn't stop from La Canada to this point, was having too much fun. No traffic (after Upper Big Tujunga) also helped me maintain a nice 55 mph most of the way.20200724_092716_HDR.jpgStopped to check out some 1950's railing (behind the k-rail on the right).
It was a fun day. As always, watch for rocks in increasing frequency between Islip Saddle and Vincent Gulch Divide. Weather was spectacular up there.

sdmichael @sdmichael send me a map of that route. I haven‘t run any part of Angeles Crest yet. I’m thinking about a Santa Clarita run soon and can add some legs

How do you mean? I just rode the highway from the 210 to 138, then back down 15 to home. The part with 2 is fairly straightforward. The only ways to anything toward Santa Clarita would be to either be really long (out to Big Pines then west via Big Pines Highway and Valyermo, following the San Andreas Fault) or cutting it way short, missing the "good stuff" on Angeles Crest (Upper Big Tujunga or Angeles Forest Highway).

Angeles Crest Highway (State 2) runs from Foothill Blvd in La Canada to Big Pines Highway, west of Wrightwood. State 2 continues east / north as Big Pines Highway to State 138 at Mountain Top Summit. You might be thinking of Rim of the World Drive, which is State 18 (mostly) and runs from State 210 in San Bernardino to Big Bear. That is in the San Bernardino Mountains. Angeles Crest Highway is in the San Gabriel Mountains.

we’re on the same page. I meant San Fernando, then past Pasadena. I ran the Bouquet Canyon last year in Santa Clarita, so it’s a quick jaunt to pick up SR 2 off the 215 if I‘m there anyway.

Keep in mind, State 2 is posted at 45 mph until the forest, then 40 mph until Angeles Forest Highway, then 45 until Red Box Gap, then 55 the rest of the way. The "fun" section of Angeles Crest is from Red Box Gap to Islip Saddle. East of Islip, there tends to be more rocks in the roadway, so that is something to watch for.

I'm lucky enough to live in knoxville, tn. Nothing really great about it, except proximity to the tail of the Dragon, devils triangle, and all throughout the Smoky mountains. Others have mentioned these a bunch.

I also used to live in Connecticut. Some of the best roads there would be just driving into western MA and eastern NY, and getting lost for a few hours.

They are actually all part of the same Appalachian mountain range 😊

I grew up the the Hudson Valley, NY. Wasn’t riding back then but did a fair amount of skiing. We were about 45 minutes from Hunter Mtn, so when we got a snow delay we packed up and went skiing in my buddy’s Bronco. Good times.

Living in Costa Rica, there are many mountain roads I can enjoy for a sunday morning relax trip. One of my favorite place is the Irazú Volcano National Park, with an elevation of about 3.400 AMSL (in feet, is about 11.150 ft above sea level), and a twisty road in good condition. The perfect place to be alone and in the middle of nowhere.IMG_20200727_081452.jpgIMG_20200727_081511.jpg

Today I eclipsed 25,000 miles on my '14 CBR650f while out for a leisurely ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway in central Virginia.

This bike was the replacement for my 2002 Kawasaki ZR-7S. The 7S was a GREAT all around bike in my opinion. So this one had big shoes to fill in my mind. Honestly, it has done so quite well. In comparison to the 7S I think the only shortcomings are slightly less under seat storage and much less useful tie down points for bungee cords. Performance and handling wise.... I have Zero complaints!!! Look forward to the next 25,000 miles.

Sometimes you just need to pull over, take a breath (and a pic). Decker Canyon in Malibu this morning.
