Hello to all, my name is Matt other wise known as echelon or echelon warrior I have a huge history in building cars especially honda’s and love tinkering with turbos and high horsepower builds. I work for acura and have always been a fan of the honda/acura brand. I have built and tuned 3 fully built integras and gotten 500whp out of them as well as done a few track days and even taken the integras to the tail of the dragon in North Carolina in America. I live in Florida in America and as such now own a 2020 honda cb650R which is nice because in Florida we do no emissions or sounds laws to restrict me from making the most out of the bike. Long story short I started tinkering with the 650R and here’s where we are now
Okay guys so here’s the final run down. Took the cb650R and tore it apart added a DNA air filter, blocked off the pair valves, drilled a hole in my intake ports, added a breather filter to the valve cover and added a full system black widow exhaust then had it dyno tuned. After 5 days of tuning and even tuning each individual cylinder seperately on woolich and battling with the traction control and abs wheel speed sensors the tune is complete. Took it from 79hp to 106hp and 43trq to 52trq so a full gain 26hp and 9ftlb trq was gained. I know some people do not agree with my mods or if they made a difference or safety and honestly it doesn’t matter I was just out to show what is possible when it’s pushed to the bleeding edge of its limits. Also the top speed has been raised from its factory limit of 135mph to around 160 and now has a redline of 13,500

Interesting! when you say you had it Dyno tuned I assume you are flashing the ECU as opposed to installing a PCV or something?

Can you list the full after Dyno graph? Curious how you went around the traction control issues you’ve talked about. Must have looked great, would be even better to see the two overlayed on each other. The Dynojet software does this pretty easily if you ask your tuner to do it.

A change from 79hp to 106hp is 34% and 43lb/ft to 52lb/ft is 23%, huge increase in numbers. I’d suggest sending this writeup and pass the work you did onto your bosses at Acura and have them forward it on to Honda; you might get a job out of it if they left that much hp available for someone to get by replacing a pipe and air filter.

Sounds like you tuner may get one as well.…….

Lol I can absolutely guarantee honda doesn’t care about that at all, they have always detuned everything they make. They could have gotten these power numbers themselves at the factory they just wouldn’t have sold something that couldn’t pass emissions or would have been this loud plus keep in mind they like to post gas mileage numbers so they tune every vehicle to be lean so it gets the hugest numbers.
Yeah I can post the graph but the only way we found out to “get around” the tcs and breaking up issue, atleast until woolich modifies their tune to actually cut off the tcs was to let off the throttle then hit it again that way it doesn’t break up. Kind of annoying but it worked. Doesn’t give you a smooth graph since you see it drop then go back up lol.

Who tuned it? It sounds like you started with a Woolich tune and had someone else juice it some more.

If so, is your guy taking orders? lol

started with woolich tune and ended with woolich tune he just adjusted the numbers and fine tuned it and did each cylinder individually. he spent five days on the tune. im sure he would certainly do others lol.

I have only been impressed a number of times when it comes to all the 650 topics and chats but this right here blew my mind. Over in AUS the max most people get is 85-90HP and the fact you and your tuner managed to pull out 34% boost from stock and you added a breather filter to the valve cover is wild to me. Not many people spend that much time and effort on a 650 and it’s pretty nice to see. Congrats on the mods man and l am keen to see what else you push out. Love the write up as well, kind of makes me feel like l could do those mods… if l was willing too 😂

THANK YOU SIR. as i said im big into building cars and trying to squeeze the most power out i can, the breather for the vc is just something ive done on ever honda engine ever lol just trying to get the bottom end the most air possible. same with cutting the intakes open to try and get as much flow as possible. i also try to do as best as i can to make a comprehensive write up to make it easy for others to follow the process.

I like what you did but I’ll prob skip the intake drilling and breather.

I’d love to get this thing dyno-tuned, if for nothing else to get rid of that 135 limit. I just need to find someone reasonably close and reliable.

I have been meaning to do the pair valve mod but honestly l can’t be bothered to have a go at it, plus my bike has a nice burble and pop on deceleration so l kinda prefer it. But l would love to see a more in-depth guide to the breather valve mod so that maybe others and even myself could do it as well!

unplug hose from air box, block off air box with cap and zip tie, slide breather over vc nipple or hose and ziptie. done. lol it really is that simple, but i suggest to do it while doing the pair valve so you can block off both. personally i only did pair valve so that i could get exact numbers of afr while i was dynoing that way i could see the best tune possible.
