All 650Rs Anyone tried a throttle lock?

I tried the 2nd item, throttle assist, and removed it 10 seconds down the road as it impaired throttle control

I'm wondering if the throttle lock is any good. Has anyone tried it and what do you think please?

Yup, I've used both.

Different use cases, but both work well.

The top one is handy on the motorway to give your right arm a break. The bottom on is more of a wrist support and avoids finger cramp from gripping the throttle.

I've used the lower sort for years - just swap my Throttle Rocker from one bike to another. Wouldn't be without it. Just adjust it out of the way when not needed.

I tried it yesterday and removed it after 10 seconds. Impossible to use on my CBR650R

Thinking of trying the top one next. Cheap enough on ebay

Definitely not impossible to use, just something you have to get used to using and having on there. Some love them, some hate them, I’m indifferent when using them over the years. They are trickier to use on a twitchy throttle, FI bike.

I‘m personally a much bigger fan of either the Atlas brand unit or a bar end throttle lock like the Kaoko style:

I installed the atlas lock for a trip across boring motorways in france worked a treat. It's not "cruise control" in that you lock it at a speed so once you downplay any u realistic expectations it does a good job at providing relief. While locked To maintain speed the throttle will need need micro adjustments on rolling hills etc but st least you dont need to have your hand around the throttle 100% of the time so you can move around a bit which does provide relief on those straight roads

I don't use my Throttle Rocker as a wrist rest. It's hard to explain, but I actually use it to open and close the throttle, allowing me to relax my grip on the throttle and, on the CBR, to sit more upright for a spell to relieve wrist strain. I don't use it in heavy traffic, rather like I don't use cruise control on my car in heavy traffic either. I've had throttle locks that hold the throttle open for the rider before and much prefer using the rocker type to control the throttle when on suitable stretches of road. I kind of lock it with my hand against the bar end weight as a sort of damper.

It’s a fairly intricate piece that potentially can lock your throttle open. I wouldn’t skimp.

That would be a big concern of mine but also. If it's a small business that develops and R&D's the product I will do my best to support then to buy off official resellers. (Not a fan of amazon either or these other junk selling websites). But there is alot of caveats to this argument and I dont do this 100% of the time.

I hope you don't mind my reviving this thread, though happy to start a new one if recommended. I considered carefully the varied replies here when shopping for a throttle lock, as I have a long motorway journey in my commute when I go by bike. I had no qualms going for the Atlas (I'm in the honeymoon period of spending), and it looks a very well engineered bit of kit.

However on my bike (2024 CB) the existing gap between the grip and the throttle housing seems fairly minimal... I think I can fit in the slimmest friction pad, at best.

Maybe I need to remove and/or re-adjust the grip if I should use the 2 or the 3, but that's no easy task by the looks of other grip-replacement videos I've seen. Did anyone else experience difficulty with the amount of space available, or am I missing something?

I’ve messaged Kaoke as they don’t list the 2024/25 CBR650R.

I like the look of the product and it’s 2/3rds the price of the Atlas.

I tried to fit the Kaoko yesterday. The 2023 Kaoko HDR100 didn’t fit my 2024 CBR650R. I have Honda heated grips but that shouldn’t br an issue. Will do some more investigating tomorrow to see why.
One possibility is that my throttle grip is too far up the bar, if that’s possible. I’ll report back.
