CB650R ABS
Hi everyone,
This year, I picked up a 2022 Honda CBR650R, and I'm considering doing an ECU tune. Before that, I was thinking about swapping the exhaust. I've noticed there are a few EC/ECE-certified options available, but a friend mentioned that replacing the stock exhaust with a street-legal one might not be worth it. He said the performance gains and weight reduction are minimal.
That said, in my city, I often see riders running bikes without DB killers and probably without catalytic converters, so it got me thinking. I have a few questions and would appreciate your input:
For a racing exhaust, I’m looking at the Dominator GP BLACK (sound). I love its deep bass tone, and my plan would be to use a hard DB killer (it reduces noise by ~7dB) for city riding and remove it when I’m out on the open road.
What do you guys think? Any recommendations for exhausts with a similar sound profile to these, within a budget of around €1000/$1000?
Thanks in advance!

- If I want to stay street legal, is it worth upgrading the exhaust before ECU tuning, or will the stock one suffice?
- If I opt for a racing exhaust, how often do you think police officers would stop me for noise violations, or even send me for an early inspection?
- How do people bypass yearly inspections? (I’ve heard some use stainless steel sponges in the exhaust)
- I have civil liability insurance and Auto Casco. Could using a non-street-legal exhaust void my coverage? Would the insurer still cover liability claims but deny coverage for damage to my bike?
