Reposting in the right place this time, just wanted to share the dyno tune gains and results for anyone interested.
Thanks for that, interesting, I had assumed it was not worth the effort from the raw figures, a 5% increase in peak power did not seem worth it. Looking at the graph though it beefs up the mid range quite a lot.

That’s a big gain in the midrange!!! What were the 3 lines representing, fully stock, pipe no tune and a tune or was it pipe with no tune, and 2 different maps? That’s a big jump, not sure i have seen a 16hp midrange gain before besides Brammers @Brammers who had one similar. But I think he had a funky tune and an air leak or some other outside influence that caused the big difference.

First was stock with exhaust and 91 oct, the other 2 was dyno tune same setup as exhaust. They did 9 passes final this is just numbers from pass 1(stock tune, akra, 91 oct) pass 8-9 (tune, akra, 91 oct) gas was from shell

Awesome!!! Kind of what I thought it might be but wasn’t 100% sure and why I asked. So the large midrange jump was from the pipe, and the rest was tweaking the tune; makes sense.

Great results!!!

I have seen people talk about a tune not being worth it on this platform, but realistically no tune is worth it on a bike if you are looking for peak hp and tq numbers (aside from force induction). But if this mid range gain is similar for all cb-r650r’s then I gotta say it is worth it. Me and my best friend both bought a 23 650r together and I raced him after the tune( he is bone stock). The difference is incredible, I use to walk my other friends tuned ninja 650 but now I smoke it and racing the stock cbr made me feel like I was on a 600. I would recommend this setup for anyone interested, obv your mileage will vary depending on engine output and tuner:

But if I’m understanding you the bulk of the power increase was due to the Akra pipe or am I not reading what was written correctly? Red line on the graph was the stock map, stock pipe, orange was stock tune and Akra and the green line was Akra and tune. So the majority of your increase in power was the pipe, not the tune. The tune DOES help, just not drastically changing things or adding power.

Unless I’m mis-reading your posts.

The reason I asked the questions earlier was because I wanted to understand your graph, what was done and what affected what (based on your description it kind of does jive) but more importantly I wanted everyone else to understand a tune alone won’t give you +16hp in the midrange unless you have a poor tune in it to start.

A pipe that’s designed to make power, along with a tune can get rid of that artificial mid-range dip almost every bike has due to EPA requirements. But +16hp in the midrange, on a modern bike, though, is incredibly hard to get, extremely surprising, and not normal for what we’ve seen in the past (again, besides Brammers @Brammers with the poor tune). Very surprising results.

I bet it’s a sweet running bike :) Maybe Honda messed with the mid-range on the newer models.

All the runs including the the red line was with the exhaust. I installed the exhaust my self then rode it to the guys tuning. These gains are purely from the tune. Sorry for the confusion.

This makes sense.

Question: was this with the silencer in or out? My tuner is adamant about gains with the silencer removed - and while I agree with him, I just don't like how loud it is on the daily, and thus I run with my silencer in.

How much did the tune from Speed Lab cost you? They are close to me and I am thinking about bringing my bike to them.

I’m booked to go to speed labs for a custom dyno tune at the end of the month and I was quoted $800

That’s ridiculous price. In person $600-$650. Mail in service range from $199-$350 on average some. Places $400-$450. But that’s way too high. Most mail in are $300-$350 @ good reputable. With for life updates and flashes.

Mail-in and in-person ECU drop-off don't involve the purchaser's own bike on the dyno. Those are just pre-made flashes created by tuning from using someone else's bike earlier that may or may not have similar mod(s). They are not custom to the individual bike. Along with what the OP has done, BennyB and others in this thread local to that speed shop, are implying will be getting custom tunes, which requires runs on the dyno with their own bikes.

Another thing to keep in mind (if your USA IP matches you actually being in the US), is the Canadian dollar exchange-rate.
$800 CAD is about $584 USD. If that's with a custom tune, with several runs on the dyno with their own bikes, it starts to look more reasonable compared to your "in person" numbers.
