Between the Dominator and Black Widow, what would everyone choose? Can't really afford better than the low end sadly. I also don't really know what to take into consideration, apart from loudness. I live in the city so I am looking for loud but not obnoxious. And in a province where aftermarket exhausts are technically illegal.
There is a second Dominator option that is 98 dB vs the smaller low level 106 dB but I don't know what 106 dB means to my ears lol. According to Akrapovic the stock is 95 dB, and I hate how quiet the stock is.

Is it really that worth it?? I haven't been seeing any pop up anywhere in my country really. Honestly I can't wait out another full season with the stock, it drives me crazy.
You get what you pay for is the only thing I can say. Not saying the other two are bad, just that the Akra is better overall quality.

As far as wanting a loud pipe for louds sake, I can’t help you there because I can’t stand loud, obnoxious exhausts. When you’re talking the 100+ DB range, that’s fucking loud and since sound measurement is not a linear thing something 6db louder is over twice as loud as the previous thing.

Your bike, however.

Also, CS Racing out of Brazil makes an amazing full car-less exhaust. The website may look a little odd but the work they put out is amazing! I have it on my 21 CBR650R and highly recommend it. Everything fit perfectly and since out O2 sensor is pre-cat, there is a bung to put the O2 sensor back in for it and it doesn't set a check engine light. It retains the stock exhaust tip outlet and keeps the sleek body line. Can't speak if it still will pass emissions/noise since we don't test where I live in the US. I can't speak for the HP gains as mines currently at the shop getting a custom tune but it does sound and look amazing. If anyone's interested, I can post before and after videos.

Makes sense!! I might be convinced to just splurge on the Akra then.

That's a good review. Would you mind posting before/after pics/vids when you have the time?

This might be a dumb question, but I have an Akra Titanium (no cat) and left the baffle in. This should theoretically keep back pressure up so I shouldn’t lose much if any performance (without a mapping), correct? Or throw off the AFR too much?

I was only able to take it for one quick ride around the block and it didn’t seem too much different than stock performance-wise..

So I guess I’m mainly wondering how much of a difference to backpressure removing the baffle causes?

There’s a ton of exhaust theory out there as well as in this forum so search a bit to read up on backpressure and how it affects performance. Some will argue it’s huge, some say it’s not. All I’ll say is a baffle in a quality designed exhaust isn’t going to the difference between proper back pressure and improper back pressure.

As far as not seeing a huge difference in power with a new pipe, again, it’s been discussed here at length so search a bit, grab a cup of coffee and read away. In a nutshell it’s been since the late 90s/early 2000s that manufacturers leave large amounts of power at the table being robbed by the exhaust and a restricted intake so you’re going to see and feel very little difference with a pipe change if it’s a good design. If you properly install a high quality pipe you may see +4hp on the top end and a properly done dyno tune may net you another 1 or 2hp. Yes, that’s it. You’ll “feel it” but it’s not a game changer.

People who say there’s more, it’s a giant difference or their flash gave them +10hp and it’s a wheelie beast are lying or had other issues beforehand because it’s just not there on this engine. Hell there was a guy at one point saying he put a 600RR power commander on his 650 and it was a monster after. That’s absolutely impossible since the PC won’t respond without a matching ECU and the fact that an RR has two complete sets of injectors makes it incompatible. You can’t always believe what you read.

So you’re not going to feel a huge difference besides the perception of performance due to increased noise. Now talking just baffles, it’s a very minor (besides noise) difference and you won’t have a large enough back pressure issue to worry. The bike will run leaner, but not grenade itself.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the informative reply! :)

In the above quoted section - were you referring to with or without the baffle? Only asking because I plan on running my full Akra system WITH the baffle for a season or so without a tune and just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to cause any damage or premature wear/tear..

The bike will run fine with or without the baffle with the Akra exhaust and no tune.

I have the akra titanium (w baffle) and I've been very happy with it. Well worth the cash just for the sound. Any power gain is icing on the cake.

It is also worth noting that the gained bhp almost ALWAYS can ONLY be noticed in the upper rev range unless it's optimized with intake/ecu tune and even when the intake/ecu has been tuned there's still a good chance that it will remain in that fashion. With the free-er flowing aftermarket exhausts you are basically sacrificing the low rev oomph for the top end pull, from which your lap time or other hooligan shenanigans will benefit.

I have seen aftermarket exhausts' dyno sheets (claimed by manufacturers) that boosted torque throughout the whole rev range but they are just not too many and the majority of the aftmkt exhausts tend to perform in the way I have described above. Also gotta consider that those manufacturers' stats are probably jacked in the house to the max with every kind of ecu/intake tune available which may not be easily accessible to you.

In one of local forums here there was a dude who removed the brand new Arrow full system from his bike (BMW R9T, I recall) because the torque loss in lower rev was so bad. He had skipped the ecu/intake part tho.

I purchased S-H6R11-AFT for my 650r and it looked horrible out of the box. A fair amount of scratches and markings from the pipe manufacturer all over (I recall someone else had this issue and they ended up returning it). Must be a bad batch that slipped through quality control.

I took it all apart and used maroon 3m scuffing pad all over and finished it off with autosol metal polish. Took quite a long time but it was well worth it! Looks much better than an original one imo.

Now I just need to wait for decent enough weather to install this beauty...

I went with a CS Racing exhaust on my 22 CBR650R. Really like the way it looks, but it's definitely on the loud side.
